The program Acronis True Image failed when attempting to clone win 8.1 C drive. The destination disk is now hidden in File Explorer but is present in Disk Management (and in Device Manager). The Disk Management command "Change Drive Letter ..." is grayed out. How can I unhide the drive?
The drive in question appears in attached screen shots as Disk 6 but is missing from Explorer.
Many thanks for any help.

Windows 8.1 may be more intuitive than previous OS's, but it's possible that Explorer cannot see a drive with NO partitions on it.
(no previous OS could)

I seem to remember running into that little coincidink once before. I partitioned the drive and then Explorer could see it.

So if you can, give that a try. Set a partition and format it, in whatever Hard Drive Manager you may have.
I use EaseUS Partition Manager. Or my DOS Utilities Boot CD.

Good Luck,

There is nothing for Explorer to see as none of the partitions on Disk 6 have a drive letter assigned.

Yup!

Just for that reason, I never attach a new Hard Drive to my Windows system till I've Partitioned it and formatted it.
Then on boot-up, Windows will see it and assign a drive letter to it.

Happy 2014 Everyone!
