Lock Screen Forces Unwanted Sleep of Device

I'm using a Dell Venue 8 Pro, my first Windows 8.1 device.

The issue: Locking the device brings up the Lock screen, and after a configurable time (I have the "Console lock display off timeout" enabled and configured to 10 minutes for testing purposes) the screen turns off, BUT the device also goes to sleep. The issue is that I do not want the tablet to go to sleep but only the screen to turn off, so that if I'm listening to music and choose to lock it, the screen will still turn off after "x" minutes, but the music will continue to play.

I've done extensive searching but haven't found anyone who can point to me an entry in the kernel or registry that can allow these features to be disconnected.

I realize this may not be just Windows 8 specific but may be device specific, but wanted to see if anyone had any knowledge regarding the issue.

    Thank you.

No answer for you I'm afraid - except to bump the question and say that I too am finding this extremely irritating. I use the device as a thin client into a set of remote systems which are behind layers of multi-factor auth & each time I lock the screen the connection drops and I need to log in to everything again!

Hi! So, I've upgraded to Windows 8 RTM this weekend and I'm having this problem: Every time I boot the PC (shutdown or restart), the Num Lock key is off. Since my password uses numbers, and I'm pretty used to type it with Num Lock, I'd like to keep it always on. It was fine on Windows 7. Now, I've...
There doesn't appear to be an easy way to do this. Any ideas on how to make Windows lock but not go to sleep when a laptop lid is closed?
Hey hey, so the problem is i want to leave my laptop running when doing renders that take hours on end. I've disabled the sleep mode in every way that I know how to (see screen shots). When the lid is open it doesn't go to sleep, but when it's closed after about minutes it goes into sleep mode...
I have two Windows 8 UltraBooks: a Sony Vaio SVT13126CXS, and a Samsung NP540U3C-A01UB. Both were setup fairly simply in December 2012, except that they both had the Intel/McAfee anti-theft software installed then. My kids use them for school work and typically put them to sleep when not in use. To...
