New Windows 8.1 tablet. Autocorrect not working?

I got a Venue 8 Pro and have been playing around with it. The keyboard itself is nice, but it's not autocorrecting anything. It shows the normal squiggly red underline when I misspell a word, but it won't show any suggestions. This makes typing on it really difficult compared to my other mobile devices.

I checked if it was enabled in the settings (Modern UI), and it is. The switch is gray, but I can switch it on and off.

I did an update right after getting the tablet and it still doesn't work. I've tried rebooting a couple of times. I've seen videos of people getting suggestions and I just don't have that. What can I do to fix it?

Getting the spell suggestion list requires right clicking on the misspelled word. As I learned yesterday, (being a new tablet user), right clicking is accomplished by pressing the stylus to the tablet for a couple of seconds. A square box will appear around the area pressed. Then you lift the stylus, and your right click menu will pop up. btw, I say stylus, because I quickly found out that as slim as my fingers are, the are too fat for some of this tablet stuff.

I think you are talking about the word suggestions that appear as you type. Mine does this, and I can't find a way to turn it off without also turning off the red squiggle under mis-spelled words.

I was checking File, Options, Proofing if you want to look around there.

My Venue 8 Pro pops up suggested words as I type so I can verify that it works as suggested by JeffL.

For specific questions about the Venue 8 you might want to visit a forum more dedicated to tablets and the Venue 8. Here's one that I found that's pretty good:Dell Tablet Forum inc. Dell Latitude Tablet

This weird! I have Office 2013 on my Desktop computer, and it DOESN'T show suggested words. I can't find anyway to turn it on. I've literally spend hours researching this, looking for, and trying things like auto text, auto complete, etc. Nothing works! I've asked about it on the Microsoft Office forum. Hopefully someone will know.

This is very strange. I woke up today and looked at some emails on my new tablet. When I replied to one, the suggestions started to appear. I haven't tested it anywhere else (I'm going to be busy today), but maybe it just needed to do something in the background and was waiting to go idle. I know my desktop with 8.1 starts using the cpu like crazy when left idle, possibly defragmenting and scanning for viruses.

thanks for the link, strollin. I'll ask any more questions I have there.

I really love this tablet so far, by the way. It's more difficult to get used to than Android, considering the Windows store doesn't have as many apps and developers as Android, but there are some great apps nonetheless. The desktop isn't very good to use with a touch screen, but it helps replace what's lost in the lack of apps. I'm extremely impressed with this tablet. For the most part, I can just use apps and be perfectly fine.

Oooops! I thought I was posting this on the Microsoft Office forum. Too many tabs and windows open :D
I tried to delete it, but I couldn't. So far, no help from there either.

This is what I'm talking about. I tried to get a screen capture from my tablet, but it didn't work out, so I got a screen capture from a YouTube video on my Desktop.

As he types a word, a boxed list of anticipated words appear below the word he is typing. You can click on a word from the list to select it. This feature is turned on in Word 2013 in my tablet, but not in Word 2013 on my desktop. It's also not turned on in the tablet of the person I'm trying to help. I can't find any info on how to turn it on or off after hours of Googleing.

I just learned something from a helpful poster at the Microsoft Office forum.
That word prediction pop up feature is not part of Word, it seems to be a feature of the Touch Keyboard.
I tested it out. I switched from the default Touch Keyboard, to the more standard looking On Screen Keyboard, and the word predictions did not pop up. Soooo... which keyboard are you using?

Humm, I tried it again, and now it works with both keyboards, but here is something to look at:
Enter OSK into the Charm Bar Search. Click on On-Screen Keyboard. That will bring yet another full keyboard. Click on the Options key. Check that the "Use text prediction" box is checked.

does "Use text prediction" enable it everywhere? After continued use, I realized that the autocorrect does work in Modern apps, but not on the desktop. Maybe there's an autocorrect program for the desktop that works in Modern UI as well. That would be nice, especially if it's better than the default.

edit: As an unrelated question, is anyone else's V8P always warm on the bottom right corner (in portrait)? Mine is always a little warm there, even after being in sleep mode for hours. Is this normal? My Nexus 7 is never warm unless I play a game on it, but I'm not sure what's normal since the V8P is a ridiculous full-Windows 8 device.

I'm not sure when that text prediction feature works. I was playing with in some more yesterday, and it was kind of intermittent when using the "on screen keyboard", whether or not "use text prediction" was checked or not. I think it was working with the "touch keyboard" whether it was checked or not. The only other program I tested was Notepad, and it didn't work there.

Is yours working now with the "touch keyboard"?

I think I've noticed mine getting warm. I know for sure it was warm last night, because my wife was playing a Taipai game on it, and she said the corner was warm.

Yeah, it gets warm when using it, but it stays a little warm even in sleep mode for some unknown reason. The battery also drains quickly. It just lost over 15% in two hours. I believe it has to do with some software or maybe an update, because I was definitely not having this problem when I got it.

The keyboard issue was technically never an issue. Autocorrect works well in most apps, but in IE11 it seems intermittent. I'm going to find a desktop program to replace its functionality everywhere else. If it works in the desktop and in apps, that would be pretty cool. I'll keep looking.
