My laptop has an "Elan" touchpad for mouse cursor control. I found that there is a setting for a 3 fingered tap and I set it to "Middle Button". Now when I triple-tap a link in Chrome it opens that link in a new tab instead of the current tab, a feature that I use all the time.
I think this should work in other browsers also, if your touchpad supports it give it a try. You should be able to find it in Control Panel Mouse Settings.
