Devices and Printers Menu takes forever to load

For some reason the green bar goes all the way across the top of the screen before the devices and printers menu will load. In then loads without an issue after waiting for almost two full minutes. This is a core I7 Win 8.1 PC with 16GB of ram and an SSD so it screams otherwise.

I do have a lot of devices on my home network but my windows 7 PC which is on the same network loads the devices and printers menu almost instantly. If it were a device hanging up you would think that the Windows 7 PC would also be affected but it isn't. I will say that Windows 8.1 does identify a whole lot more devices that fall into the category of "multimedia devices" on the network than does windows 7.

I don't really have a good feeling as to how to go about troubleshooting this one?

I have the same problem. It takes 2 to 3 minutes to load. I have looked all over the internet for a solution to no avail. There was some information to set Bluetooth Support Service to Automatic load instead of manual that worked for some. It has not worked for me.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Many people are having the same problem.

Microsoft told me to either wipe and reinstall or wait for a major update to be released in a few months. Of course no guarantees with either and neither seemed very compelling. I wonder if we have much in common. I have a new intel haswell desktop motherboard. You?

BTW, I also tried the bluetooth setting but, considering my board has no bluetooth, it didn't help. No surprise.

It happens to both my machines - a laptop and a desktop. It comes and goes and I've not found any thing that is directly or indirectly contributing to this. Sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn't. My thinking is; I have some additional HDD's and partitions on both and if they've not been accessed since a boot up, it has to take the time to locate and add them. I have no real proof of this but just my suspicion.

I have my C drive on an SSD, data drive and a couple of backup partitions on a hard drive formatted to 4TB. I do also access an external NAS but this problem happens with the network disconnected and also in safe mode where the devices shouldn't even be loaded.

BTW, mine doesn't come and go. It consistently does it every time.

Me too. Every time. I reinstalled my wife's computer and it works flawlessly. Just not sure I want to reinstall everything for my computer. So, if anyone finds a solution, be sure to post for all of us to see and I will do the same.

I did a repair reinstall and now it works just fine. I just ran setup from windows and it kept my programs and settings...all I had to do was update windows.
