Cant Change My SSD To AHCI Mode

hi, i have recently bought an SSD. I have heard from a youtube video that changing the Sata controller from IDE to AHCI can give me better performance but i tried to enable this and it doesn't recognize the drive. The PC will not boot in AHCI mode which meant i have to switch to IDE again. I have tried booting from the Windows install DVD but it tells me that i cannot install Windows on this drive.
Am i missing something?

You can't switch modes on an already installed Windows without a regedit. AHCI : Enable in Windows 7 / Vista - Windows 7 Help Forums

Its ok, i dont mind re installing Windows, its just when i enable AHCI in the BIOS it wont let me install Windows to that drive.

You can't convert a MBR OS or any bootable drive, to GPT, the boot manager needs to be built from an Installation

Yes you'll have to have a window install for UEIF GPT the best way to set this up is to use Rufus , Once you get to the Install screen then hit F10 which will bring up a command prompt, Use disk part to clean your SSD and Convert to GPT, then continue your install.
If your computer came with 8 or 8.1 then you'll need to go into your BIOS and turn off Secure boot and enable CSM. enable AHCI yOu need to make sure your Install Image is 64bit. If win 7 then you need a win7sp1 images to be compatible with UEIF

Its ok sorted it now, for some reason it wasn't recognizing the drive on port 1 but it does on port 2, My PC came with Vista BTW
