Laptop keyboard slow to respond on Windows 8

    Hi everyone,

I have a strange problem that I'm hoping one of the genius people on here will be able to help me with.

My laptop is a Samsung, about 9 months old and has a pretty good spec.
Suddenly, over the past few days, I've noticed that the keyboard in lagging whenever I'm logged on.
It's fine at the login screen but, once I've logged on the problem occurs - and it happens on all programs.
I know that this is specifically an issue with Windows 8, as I have a virtual Ubuntu machine on here that is working fine.

None of the keyboard settings have been altered and no new applications have been installed or upgraded recently.
Does anyone have any idea what is causing this or how to best resolve it?

    Thanks in advance. :-)
    Greg

Does Task Manager show a lot of disk activity when you get these lags?

Have you looked in device manager for conflicts? (Yellow '!' characters shown)

One "trick" that support always uses... boot to safe mode, go in device manager(assuming you have no indication of the problem locus from other things checked) and delete the keyboard driver. When you reboot in normal mode plug and play should reinstall the driver. Sometimes that clears up weird problems.

    Hi,

    Thanks for responding.

The lag is constant, so there's nothing unusual flagging up in the task manager.

No conflicts in Device Manager, but I've uninstalled and reinstalled the driver anyway.

Problem still exists in Windows, but it's still fine on the virtual Ubuntu desktop.

An external USB keyboard is good to have an can be had for less than $10 from a discount store.. or try to borrow one for testing. See if it acts the same. Also you could check for newer drivers from the Laptop maker's support page.

The only other thing would be check for "sticky keys" setting. This allows keys like control to be pressed and released before hitting the rest of the key shortcut combo.

It's not really viable for me to use an external keyboard.
The sticky keys (and other keyboard settings) have been changed to no avail and changed back.

I see no mention in your last post.

At this point all I can suggest is try a multitude of virus scans. It acts up in Windows but not in the VM. So maybe it's a Windows malware.

    Resolved on lenove u410.

I had the same issue after I updated audio Conexant driver. I disabled all sound enhancements.

Go to control_panel>Hardware & Sounds>Sound right click the default sound device select properties goto enhancements tab and check "Disable all sound effects". I also turned off dolby digital plus. I tried turning them on and it does not effect the keyboard response.

Hope this solves the problem for you.
