Look at the plastic 'tab' inside the connector , the colour indicates the version of the cable.

USB 1.x White
USB 2.0 Black, sometimes white
USB 3.0 Blue

If that doesn't help , the 'larger' connector on one end will have an extra 'bump' on the top edge making it taller than a USB 2 cable.

This will help explain it if you need more visual info.

Just so you know, using a USB 3 data cable on a USB 2 device will not make it run at USB 3 speed. The device itself has to support USB 3.0. And even then that's no guaranty that it will run at the full USB 3 speed. My laptop has USB 3.0 ports. I also have a USB 3.0 external hard drive enclosure. The USB 3.0 data cable came with it. I have a SATA II 5400 RPM laptop drive in the enclosure. It will never even come close to USB 3.0 speeds. I'd have to put an SSD in it to even get close. The one advantage of it being USB 3.0 is the extra power offered so I don't need a power pack or second USB plug for power for the drive enclosure. There are extra wires in the cord and the plug that goes into my enclosure will not plug into any USB 2.0 device I have here. If you have a USB 3 device the USB 3 cable should have come with it.
