Question: I'm looking for a Metro app that would allow me to remote control a music software program residing on the Win 8 desktop machine. I'm not looking for a music app that will stream music residing on the PC, just a remote control (via wifi home network), preferably for foobar2000 as it's my main player of choice. There are heaps of apps like this on the android platform and iOS and I'm guessing this is the first hurdle i've come across with the Windows Store.

For the Surface 2.

Cheers,

Bruce

Hi there
I think VLC remote might do this sort of stuff. There's also a load of "Commander" type apps that will connect and start an app on your desktop.

I'm not sure about Metro as for these types of apps a Smart phone would be my "Weapon of Choice". The Smart phone could certainly start an app on the Surface Pro (it's just running Windows I assume).

I have for example an app on my Samsung S4 that controls my SKY HD BOX -- I haven't used the SKY remote ever since I downloaded the REMOTE controller app -- I'm not even sure where the remote controller is any more - the Dog might have eaten it for all I know !!!!. (I exported the Sky box out of the UK -- fortunately the TV viewing cards only check the BOX is valid - not where the Box is used !!!).

So there are zillions of remote controller apps on smart phones that can control applications on Network / Wi-Fi connected devices.

I even have one that enables me to monitor / alter the heating controls in my house when I'm away -- The heating controller is Wi Fi enabled so it works just fine over the internet.

IMO using a smart phone is the best solution rather than trying to get your Windows tablet to do it.

Yeh I have My Nexus 7 doing said task at the moment, but what I'm trying to do is get the Surface 2 to replace all the functionality of the Nexus 7 so I might be happy to flog it. Currently the S2 with it's lack of being a decent enough music remote control is what's stunting me.

This is kinda what I am looking for (as long as you can rate songs, that's a key feature for me). There's no way to getting Windowsphone apps running through Metro is there?
