I've tried that. I cannot see the bios screen or anything past the gateway loading screen

What type of cable do you have connecting the monitor to the PC? Is the cable connected to the mobo for the onboard graphics or is it connected to the external GPU?

it is VGA and the only time i see the loading screen is when connected to the motherboard so that is how i currently have it hooked up for different suggestions.

After removing the CMOS battery, and putting it back in, i was able to reach the BIOS screen. What should i do from that point?

Was just about to say the same hit f2 at boot then pick bios/computer setup. Though removing the cmos should have reset that already. Do you still have the pro-Western card that messed this up in the first place? You should look at what your settings are for something called peg/pci.

Your recovery mode is done by hitting f2 and selecting it I believe. Your user guide seems to state that. http://global-download.gateway.com/G...TEWAY&SC=PA_6G

Before entering the bios, some text on the screen says "CMOS checksum error". i can then press delete again to etner bios, or f1 to continue. I am in the bios, i have reset to default settings. I will try f2 after removing and reinserting the CMOS battery, because the first startup attempt after doing so has been the only time it shows me the option to press delete to enter bios.

Keep tapping the key very quickly as soon as you restart the computer. It is what I have to do, just holding it doesn't work.

to get rid of the checksum error since you removed the cmos battery you must put defaults then save them while exiting the bios.
