I'm running Windows 8 on a Samsung laptop which I've had since April of this year. The wireless adapter is as mentioned in the thread title, driver version 15.5.6.48. Windows update has been telling me there is an update for this adapter. I hadn't acted on it because the adapter is working and I don't see a need to update it right now. It was fine with a Linksys router, never a problem. At my current location, I am using a Netgear router and all was well until I updated the router's firmware. The laptop had intermittent connection drops until I rolled back the router's firmware. (I think the problem is Netgear's firmware in this case, not my drivers.) Since rolling back the router firmware, the laptop has had no connection issues whatsoever.
Today I see that the driver has been downloaded, so I have the warning that it is ready to be installed. I am wondering if I should go ahead and install it. And would I be able to roll the driver back if there are problems?

It looks like I might be better off staying with the driver I have. I guess that's the thing--these manufacturers may make changes to the adapter such that an updated downloaded from anyone other than them (in this case Samsung) may not work. I've never updated graphics or wireless drivers on my other machines (XP and 7), choosing an 'if it ain't broke' approach.
I also see that Windows Update tried and failed twice to install this driver. I have since changed my Windows Update settings so that WU can download the updates but from now on I will decided if and when they will be installed. I'll look more into what would have caused the installation failures.
