USB disconnect

Hi - I recently upgraded to Win 8.1 following a major rebuild of my PC. This machine runs 24/7 as it downloads data from a weather station via a usb port.

Every morning at 8am precisely the usb port disconnects, & the only way I can get it connected again is to physically unplug the weather station's usb cable & plug it in again. All is then well until 8am the next day! I have thoroughly trawled the weather station's various settings & can't find anything that would remotely relate to this problem.

As an aside, before I loaded Win 8.1 the pc would automatically connect to the weather station on boot-up, but now it won't connect until I have unplugged the usb cable & plugged it in again!

The pc is an HP Touchscreen.

Anybody out there any thoughts?

Many thanks - Chris N Stephenson...........>

Go to Power settings in Control Panel and under your Power Plan/ Advanced Power Settings /USB Settings change to Disabled. That should stop USB controller from going to sleep.

Hi Mike - many thanks for the info. I went to the Power Plan (balanced) & found where you turn off the USB power-off function. I did this last night. Unfortunately however, the USB connection still got dropped at 8am!

Any further thoughts?

Soory but this problem with USB port going to "sleep" is most common problem. Next thing you might want to check is if that device has any drivers in windows and if it does, it could have it's own power settings. Also in BIOS there could be some power saving settings that is over riding Windows. baring all that, it must be some setting in that program.

Ok Mike - many thanks for the reply. I think I'll have to dive into the bios & see what's happening in there. The silly thing is that all was well until I upgraded to Win 8.1! It was working fine running under Win 8.
All the best - Chris S.........>
