Solved Empty Hard Drive?

I sent back a broken Hard Drive to a company (it was still under warranty), and about 2 weeks later I got back a new one. I plugged it in and booted it up, but all I get is "Reboot and Select Proper Drive". Does this mean that they forgot to install Windows 8 onto the hard drive, or is there something wrong with it?

when you sent it back to them all they did was replace your drive but they are not a data recovery service so they sent you a blank drive. you have no os atm and need to install one.

Most likely, it's just a blank replacement drive. If so, then you'll need to contact the manufacture to get replacement installation media as well.

You might double check your UEFI/BIOS settings to make sure that you have the hard drive is listed in the boot priority before any other hard drive.

If that's not the issue, then connect the hard drive to another PC to see what's on it, or if it's blank.

did you have a retail or OEM version, is there a COA sticker on your case with your key?

If you have a Windows 8 product key, then you should be able to download a Windows 8 ISO using the method in the tutorial below. I haven't tried it with an OEM Windows 8 key though. If it will not let you, then you will need to contact the computer manufacturer to order a replacement set of recovery discs for your specific model number.

I have an OEM version of windows, and I ended up doing a bit of research. Apparently you can't re-install Windows 8 OEM without the Windows disk. Can I just borrow a Windows 8 re-install disk from a friend or do I have to order new ones specific for my PC?

EDIT: Just realized that since I no longer have my old operating system that I can just get the retail version, my question is if an OEM key will work with a retail version.

If the Windows 8 came preinstalled on the PC, then it needs to be specific for your PC's OEM brand and model number.

If I just got a new hard drive though, could I just put the retail version on the new drive?

Sure, you could do that, but it wouldn't include any of the software or drivers that came with the factory installation.

Correct. If you have a set of factory recovery discs or media to restore with, you could boot from it.

for your questions a oem key will activate a retail disk you just might have to do the phone part after it fails the first time, to get your drivers you just need get the ones for your motherboard, your pc looks custom built and is an ibuypower correct? Also if you download an oem copy of windows like brink stated in that guide then you can use your key found on your COA sticker on your case.
