USB3 HUB missing driver - or not??

Greetings.
USB3 and Windows 8 is still a fuss I think.
When using Windows 8.1 internal USB3 driver for my Z77 chipset, my USB3 sticks runs fine when using them directly in the USB 3 ports on the mobo, but my Skarkoon USB 3 hub is only running USB2 speeds
Internal 4-Port USB3.0 Hub | SHARKOON Technologies GmbH

In devicemanager the hub shows up as a "Superspeed Hub (non functional)", and I don't know where to get a driver that works with Windows 8.1 standard driver.

Then I have tried this trick (look at #10)
http://www.eightforums.com/drivers-hardware/13877-usb3-still-missing-new-intel-usb3-driver.html
and then my USB sticks works using internal USB 3 ports AND using the USB 3 hub!!

All seems to work, but how can Sharkoon claim it works in Windows 8, when it has a driver issue with Windows 8's own USB 3 driver? It is not for ordinary users to install the driver from the link above (deactivate driver signing 2 times with reboots between).

Anybody have a clue where to find a driver for the USB3.0 hub that actually works with Windows 8 (and win8.1) standard USB3.0 driver for Intel Z77 chipset?

Run the Intel Driver Update Utility and it will check to make sure that all Intel-based components are up to date:

Good luck. Please understand that my response is not intended to address your hub issue directly.

I have a Z77 from ASUS and use only one of the midboard 19 pin connectors. The unit's website shows it needs no additional drivers for Windows 8. Not sure if that means 8.1 also.

The have only seen a "Superspeed" type description in Device Manager is when I plug in my USB 3.0 docking station. You can see the additional entries when using it. But as far as I know, there should be no additional drivers needed for the Intel ports since they already have drivers.

Do you have version 1 or version 2 of your Sharkroon device?

It is version 1 I have of the HUB (missing the internal connection-solution). The problem has been there in Windows 8 and in windows 8.1. But as written in #0, I can solve it by using the tip from post #10 in the above link, and when doing so then BOTH intern USB3 and HUB is running at USB3 speed.
I just don't like the solution as it means I have to deactivate driver signing while installing them, so something in these drivers is not ment for Windows 8(.1).

It is correct though, that when using these "non-signed" drivers, I do not have to install any drivers for the HUB (as they write on Sharkoons web-page). But I can't guess why the HUB does not work with the original Windows 8 drivers.

In Windows 7 the problem does not exitst, only in windows 8(.1)

Windows 8 plus USB 3.0 has given some folks problems for a while. I have been involved in numerous threads trying to figure out what is happening, but the answer still eludes me. I even had someone with the same motherboard and same USB 3.0 device and mine worked fine but his did not.

If you are using Flash Drives to test, they are not very fast, no matter what version of USB you are using. On my external USB 3.0 dock, when I was running an internal SSD and had an SSD in the dock, I was getting a transfer rate of 400 MB/s for a 3.5 GB file. Normally with standard hard drives, at either end, it won't go above 120 MB/s. Flash drives do good to get 40 MB/s, depending on the quality of the drive.

And just in case, 400 MB/s is also 3200 Mb/s (3.2 Gb/s), which is normally the unit USB speeds are referenced.

40 mb/sec with an USB3 stick?? Here are testpics of two of my USB3 sticks A Sandisk extreme (at top) and a Kingston DT Ultimate (at buttom). The buttom pic is a little older hence the lower version of diskmark

This is with the "non-certified" USB3 driver.

Looks pretty good!! Now why did you ask the original question?? ;)

I just use the Windows Transfer rates. If you could do the same transfer and equate them to that, we would be on a common ground. And remember, I did specify it depended on the Quality of the drive and the type and size of file being transferred.

Because I think something is wrong, when I have to use "non-certified drivers" for this to work, when Sharkoon write on their own web-site, that NO driver is needed for Windows 7 and 8. And when it is true for windows 7, it is NOT true for windows 8, but it is really not for noobs to install these. Why is it this way? Why all these problems with USB3 in Windows 8? It worked just fine in windows 7?!?!

And I am unsure if I miss something, or have made some thing to weakend my safety on my PC by using this "non-certified" driver?

But as I wrote earlier, it works, but WHY it works, when original don't, I don't know :)

All I can say is the problem obvisouly not been solved if you are still having the experience. There is a thread on the Intel site about 10 pages long but the only thing people claimed helped was the hack you are referring to. I did think that Intel released updated drivers, which basically included the hack and could be used in Windows 8.

I cannot offer any solutions, just guesses. My system has a case that contains the USB 3.0 ports and no additional power source is needed, just the 19 pin connector to the motherboard. I suppose there is a possibility that configuration, for some reason, possibly ACPI involved, is causing problems... assuming there is not some basic Motherboard malfunction, whether design or manufacturer.

I have wanted to trade motherboards with someone having the problem you seem to be, but there is really no way to accomplish that. Having the actual device with the problem might help with the troubleshooting. But just having an identical board would not really prove anything.

Actually the driver from the "hack" has been updated since the "hack" was described for the first time, but the updated driver still is not certified to windows 8(.1).

But do you (or others) know if there are any sideeffects of installing this one driver as a "non-certified" driver in windows 8.1? Security? Stability on longer sights? (PC is totally stable right now with current drivers).
Anything else I might want to do/try?

Thank you for your time spending on "my" problem. I know I'm not alone with it, so maybe others can benefit from a solution, I hope so.
