    Accidentally Dropped External Hard Drive


    Guys i need help,,i accidentally dropped my hard drive its a 1tb buffalo hd-pntu3,,now when i go to disk management in my computer its showing up as disk 1 unknown allocated,,and when i try to initialize disk its greyed out!,,please i need help,, i have a lot of files on this drive,,please help!!

    It is probably corrupted, does it have a warranty? This happen to one of mine a couple months ago, it's pretty annoying. You have to keep these things in a safe spot lol.

    Yeah. But the thing is i bought this one when i was abroad so the warranty id no use now. I mean is there anything i can do on my end? Can i still recover my files?..

    There are services that can save files but you usually have to send them. Cost used to be high you'd have to check.

    there use to be a program called SpinRite not sure if it's still around but its put out by www.grc.com/intro.htm not surre if it's still avalable or not might check it out.

    I don't think there's a way to get them back, some places do it but it costs a lot (like $500-$1000).

    All files of any importance need at least one backup copy while those of particular importance need 2 or backup copies. Having no backups is asking for trouble. Data recovery cannot be relied on.
