did a new install of windows 8.1 retail and burned a dvd in 9 mins at 8x speed,then i rebooted the computer no dvdburner there anymore so i used this hack reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

rebooted the machine dvd burner is back i burn another disk set it at 8x speed but very slow took 30 mins to burn the same disk it was only burning at 3.6 speed.so my question is how do i fix this problem.

The hack may be the problem, its probably showing up as a slower speed drive. If the DVD drive did not appear after reboot, I would have gone to the Device Manager (it would probably showed up as an error) and uninstalled the drive in the Device Manager and then restart the PC. When Windows starts, in these cases, it will usually detect and reinstall the drive and fix the problem.

I don't know if the Upper/Lower Filter problem in older Windows is a problem in Win 8. That would be another issue.

it showed up in hidden device drivers so i tried uninstalling the drive and rebooted but the drive never came back the hack was the only thing that would make it show up again and when i deleted the upper filters and rebooted i got the blue screen of death and i had to reinstall windows again

Dvd drives do not always show up in windows explorer - they have to have a disk in them - at times, other times they show up - on my machine at least, even under win 8.
