    Laptop screen brightness won't adjust

Hey everyone, I don't know if you know me, but I was Wii Master 64 on Seven Forums, so, it's good to be here! I decided to change my name, but I couldn't think of anything better, so I just went with what it is lol.

Anyways, I about a month or 2 ago, I went and bought a new laptop since my old one was starting to die on me and stuff. It's a Samsung ATIV Book 4, and it's really nice. This is the first hick up I've had with it so far, and I noticed it happening today. I noticed my screen was really dim today as I was using it, so naturally, I use the Fn key to turn it up, but nothing happens. Up in the top left of the screen, it shows a little brightness meter going up and down as I turn it up and down, but nothing changes. I went to the power options menu and tried to adjust it there, and alas, nothing happened. I googled this problem to see what I could find, but nothing really helped... I even tried disabling the display driver and restarting it, but that didn't do anything. What do you all think?

Hello That Guy, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You might see if you may be able to use one of the options in the tutorial below to adjust your screen brightness instead.

Screen Brightness - Adjust in Windows 8

    Hope this helps,

Thanks for the reply, I tried everything in that tutorial, but nothing happens. I'm wondering if it's an issue with the screen itself, but I haven't abused it or anything

It sounds like you may be missing a driver. You might check to see if you're missing one that may have been removed during the update to 8.1.

It says that all of the drivers are functioning correctly, so I don't know which one it would be. I tried a system restore, but it just froze it into a brighter state...

Well, I fixed it by going back to the previous driver I had installed. Apparently, my driver updated itself today without me knowing lol. Apparently, there's some sort of incompatibility between the new driver and my computer. Oh well, I'll just wait for a fix. Thanks for the help!

Yeah, it was an update to the Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver. More specifically, it was the 10.18.10.3316 version that was incompatible.
