Hi,

My desktop has Core i7 Sandy Bridge processor. I read somewhere that Windows 8.1 has some more processors requirements to run and I don't know if my processor meets those requirements. Would you kindly clarify if my processor meets those requirements or do I have to upgrade?

Yes, any processor you would run with Sandy Bridge will be compatible with 8.1. Mostly, they're talking about old Pentium 4 class hardware that needs to be upgraded.

Well obviously Core i7 (or even ALL processors from the Intel Core family) supports Windows 8.1.
The system requirements for 8.1 remain identical to those of 8, except that x64 variants of Windows 8.1 require CPUs that support four specific x86 instructions: PrefetchW, CMPXCHG16b, LAHF, and SAHF.[173] In addition, Windows 8.1 Preview does not work on some newer Intel Atom-based devices.[174]

So my processor would support 64 bit Windows 8.1 too?

Well yes, the 64-bit processors that don't include CMPXCHG16B, LAHF, and SAHF instructions are those old, early production AMD64s.
