Touchscreen Monitor - On-Screen Keyboard Layout

Can someone please confirm this for me, as the monitor that I would like to purchase is not available in my country so I would have to import one. I do not have windows 8 yet and I have never owned a touchscreen monitor before, so it is something I have no experience with.

Does Windows 8 control the layout of the on-screen keyboard of a touchscreen monitor? Or is it the monitor? An online retailer is advertising the monitor as having the QWERTZ layout, but I am used to QWERTY and want to be sure that I can change it.

Help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You might want to contact the company you are going to buy it from.

Hello RP, and welcome to Eight Forums.

What's the brand and model of the touch monitor?

A monitor (touch or not) is just a display. It would normally be up to you and Windows 8 for what displays on the monitor. The on-screen keyboard would be from Windows 8 as well.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

It's the Samsung S24C770. Here is a link to the UK website, but it appears that it will not be available in the UK after all.

24? LS24C770TS Full HD 280cd/m˛ Touchscreen LED Monitor - Samsung UK - OVERVIEW

I would expect it to be windows that would be responsible for the layout of the on-screen touch keyboard, but I just find it odd that one company is advertising it as a QWERTZ keyboard, which is what put some doubt into my mind and why I thought I would ask the question here.

Maybe they don't understand how it works and are just stating the common keyboard interface used in their country just to cover themselves.

I would suspect that it's either an error in the item's description on the retailers part, or possibly referring to the on-screen-display (OSD) settings for the monitor having that.

I've sent an email to the company that I intend to purchase it from, to see what they say. It's a smaller company that may have made the mistake, so maybe they just don't have the knowledge of the products they are selling.

The online retailer did not know - it seems that they are just a bigger "box-shifter" than the other company that stated the wrong details on the description.

I did however start a web chat with samsung.dk (a service not available in the UK) and they confirmed that it is Windows 8 which decides the Keyboard layout.

Samsung UK have not responded to anything I have sent them about this product, which I find rather ignorant of them.

Thank you for posting back. That figures. Either way, you'll have a touch screen keyboard in Windows 8/8.1.
