Hey guys I just pulled the bottom panel off of my HP m6-k015dx and noticed that it has a pcie expansion slot. I was wondering if I could use this slot to add a 120gb msata ssd in the laptop. I tried searching online but nothing came up except sites where I could buy my laptop.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

I'll quadruple check but I didn't see anything. I have a pic of the port if you want to see it.

Thanks for the links but I am not interested in using a cache. I want just my os and programs to be installed on the msata ssd. I want to store all my files and games on the regular hdd. I am trying to figure out how to do that. If I had the cash I would buy a cheap msata ssd and mess with it but I don't, so I'm coming here to figure out if it is at all possible what I am trying to do.

Alright, thank you. However, if I'm not mistaken, I need to have an msata controller on my motherboard in order to utilize an msata drive, correct? because right now I have an empty slot and want to install an msata drive and am wondering if my motherboard has an msata controller.

Well I talked to HP and they said that I can add an msata ssd to the computer. However, I need to buy a retail version of windows 8 in order to install it. Does anybody know a way around this? I am not buying a retail version of windows 8 when I have it already installed on my computer. They said it would only install on an hdd that is the size of the hdd installed from the factory. Seems like a lot of bs on their part.

First, Windows registration is tied up to MB/BIOS not drives, Second you can clone just Boot partition from HDD to SSD and later just transfer data files anyway you want. So BS on their part = yes. Even if you do install Win anew, you can use the same registration as you had before since you did not change the essential part (MB) to which it is tied .

Thanks. I know that the serial number is tied to the motherboard. I just wanted to know if i had extra hoops to jump through that they put in there. Looks like I'll be buying an ssd.
