    new external hard drive

    Hello
I have a pc which uses 2.0 usb.
I want a new external hard drive, with no adapters.
Can my pc work with a one with 3.0 if that's all I can find?
I think it will work at 2.0 speeds but am asking to be sure.

I know the upgrade would be better but I don't want to buy a new pc just for the usb .
    Thank you
    Peter

I also wonder if the opposite is true too, i.e., 3.0 pc and 2.0 external drive -work at 2.0 speed or not work at all?
I do not know if the connections are the same size and shape.

Yes, the connections are backwards compatible but the speed will be limited to 2.0 if both aren't 3.0.

Good to hear. So I can image from my 2.0 to 3.0 ext. HDD and still recover from 3.0 ext. HDD to my 2.0?

    Excellent.
It was answered right away when it stated it was backward compatible but at the 2.0 speed.
I know what to buy now and thank you.
