None of my hardware works with Windows 8

I have a Kodak Scanner and Canon Imageclass printer to which neither functions with my Windows 8 laptop. I tried installing new drivers a couple of months ago with no success. Does anyone know if there will be a fix to this or do I now have to go out and get all new hardware just to be able to print/scan?

Just to confirm, when you said you tried drivers, are they specifically for Windows 8? Did you check with both manufacturer's for updated drivers? Do other USB devices work on this laptop?

For the scanner I downloaded it from the kodak website and Windows 8 is listed under 'Drivers tested on following operating systems'

I just got a message that the device is an older usb that is not compatible with 3.0 usb (?). So I plugged it into a different usb port and now it doesn't recognize it at all...any help?

I have a Kodak All-In-One 7250 printer/scanner and the drivers and software package version 7.7 for it from the Kodak website claims support for XP, Vista, Win 7 & Win 8. The drivers and scanning software work fine on my Win 7 desktop as well as my Win 8 laptop. Which Kodak printer do you have?

I think there may be some other issue. Older USB devices are compatible with USB 3.0 ports but will not be able to take advantage of USB 3.0 speeds. I see messages such as "This device can perform faster" when I plug a 3.0 device into a 2.0 port but I have yet to see a message telling me that a USB 2.0 device is not compatible with a USB 3.0 port.

When I connected my HP printer on Win8, HP had posted a warning to NOT allow Windows to install the default driver; instead, you were to cancel that and run the HP software -- and NOT connect the printer until told to do so. Perhaps that same problem is affecting the Kodak scanner.

Also, while this should not be necessary, you should check your BIOS settings and ensure that "legacy USB" is enabled. I've read of keyboards and mice not working when that is not enabled, but not printers or scanners.
