Hard Drives Not Showing Up in My Computer

I am currently running Windows 8 64 bit and when I go to "My Computer" it is only showing my C: drive. I know my other drives (internal, external and dvd) are working because I can enter the directory name (ie. H:\ or E:\) into the address bar and the content appears. Is there any way to fix this problem so that they show up in "My Computer"?

There is an option in Folder Options under the view tab to hide empty drives in my computer. See if unchecking that option helps.

I am having similar problems. I just built a PC with an Asus M5A78L USB3. (Heard good things but the mb stinks, must of been people buying cheaper CPUs and other parts old OS ) installed a 250GB SSD and a 2TB HDD. I installed Windows 8 Pro and right away I had problems, both drives showed up but then my 2TB disappeared completely. I checked all the settings, services, components, registry and device manager there all fine. I also am having problems using the USBs both the 2 and 3.0. I did mechanic work to check drives but it doesn't recognize the second drive either. My last option is to go into the BIOS and see if they're any settings or updates I need but the only usb that works is my keyboard and doesn't work till Windows sign in; In fact I have to use a onscreen keyboard just to login. Then the keyboard works. I also installed tons of legacy hardware just in case. This is my first time here and would really appreciate the help and to keep going to give back the favor. Oh a mysterious thing is that no program or anything will pick up the second hard drive but if u expand in device manager, then go to views and click on show hidden devices then I can see it but grayed out.

Welcome to Eight Forums. To get the best help you really should start your own thread so people can concentrate on your problems alone. It makes it easier to tell who the replies are directed at.
Now with that out of the way. Where did you get your install media from? How did you do the install? Was it an upgrade install? I ask because it sounds like a corrupted install. I'd start over with a fresh clean install. If you downloaded your install media I'd down load it again and make a new disk or thumb drive.

Thanks. It was a fresh install of 8 Pro from a disc I purchased. I just built the computer, the HDD was there and the Ssd, but for some reason I logged in one day and received an error message saying one of my items couldn't be found, then I noticed the the second hard drive was gone. I tried unplugging the power and Sata and I do hear it come I though.

You could try system restore to go back to just before that happened. Have you updated all your drivers with those from ASUS? If not I would, starting with the chip-set drivers. I have an M4N68, and a M2N68, both work fine in Windows 7. I had some issues with both in Windows 8, not sure if it was hardware or software though. Most of the issues were when running the preview releases. They weren't the issues you have though, not that I can remember anyway.

The CD for the motherboard didn't work, Windows8 seems to have a lot of problems still. Instead of running the CD I open the files and copied them. Then I had to run each one in compatibility mode, one by one. Do you mean to restore the OS to factory or just wipe and start fresh again? Thanks!

The drivers on the CD are likely outdated and may not even be for Windows 8. Go to the motherboard manufacturers web site and look for Windows 8 drivers for your motherboard. What is the make and model of the motherboard? With all the issues your having I'd wipe it and start over with a new clean install.
