how do you disable the touchpad in windows 8?

I found the sequence to uninstall the driver, and it told me that was done.

The touchpad still is dysfunctional, interrupting typing.

    fn+f7 doesn't work either.

    TY

    Hi,

Gateway ne522 has uses Synaptics touchpad drivers (download). When properly installed, they should have two options:

    1. Disable the touchpad temporarily by tapping the upper-left corner (1), although the feature availability may vary from device to device.

    2. Disable the touchpad permanently by opening Control Panel (icons view), clicking on the Mouse icon and disabling clickpad.

Either action triggers the red light on the touchpad indicating that it's off.

The alternative option is to disable device installation before uninstalling the driver, then reboot.

I can't find an icons view control panel; I eventually got to the mouse settings dialog, and there was no 'touch pad settings' option.
    Thanks for the starting place.

After reading the control panel thread, I'll take a different approach. Thanks again.

This is normal, because you've uninstalled the driver, but you missed this:

There are now two drivers available at the Gateway page - synaptics and elantech. Neither one produces the "touch pad settings" dialog posted by Vadikan. There is no "click pad disable" button on either screen. The upper left corner action = no change at all. fn+f7 gets gibberish about caret browsing.

I didn't do the "disable device installation" uninstall, because of the warning Vadikan attached.

    This is strange. Let's check.

    1. In Device Manger, right-click your touchpad - Properties.
    2. Post screenshots of tabs:
    Driver
Details with Hardware IDs selected from the drop-down
    3. Open Mouse settings and post the tab with touchpad settings.

Thanks for your effort. Any way I can improve the resolution of the screenshots?
