I cannot get the scanning component of my new printer to work. The "scanner" appears in device manager but has an error (yellow exclamation), it seems that the installation of the scanner network driver fails every time I try to install it. The printer prints fine just will not scan. I have it wirelessly installed and am using Windows 8.1 currently.

Anyone have any ideas as to how to get it works as I am totally out of ideas after numerous uninstall and reinstalls.

Hi JustATest, yes I tried their latest drivers and troubleshooting utilities but still not working. The scanner troubleshooter tells me the driver installation failed and to uninstall and try again but this has not worked. I am wordering if it is an 8.1 specific issue, unfortunately I did not have this printer when I was running windows 8 so do not know if it would work in that environment.

I am considering going back to 8 to see but not sure if that is possible.

I ran into this on a Win 7 machine with both a Kodak and a Brother printer. The thing I found that made the scanning software work was to set the scanner software to "run as administrator".

Hmm.. Yes, it certainly could be an 8.1 incompatibility issue and you may have to go to 8.0 to prove it but here's another idea. Is your firmware up to date? Just released version G on 7/22/2013. That's fairly new!

Brother Solutions Center: MFC-9330CDW: Downloads: Australia

I have already upgraded to the latest firmware. I have tried running with Administrator privileges. This is what I see in device manager after every install.

Hmm... I see the word LAN in the description. Maybe that driver could not be specifically installed because you did not have a LAN connection established at the time of installation. Now, that might be something to explore. For example, most routers (during setup) advise one to make a direct ethernet connection during setup. Did your installation disc advise you to do the same? If so, did you make that connection as part of the setup process/requirement?

Loquacious - Please try this, I had the exact same situation and the solution that worked for me was to right-click on the shortcut to the Brother Control Center (mine is called ControlCenter4), select Properties then on the Shortcut tab click on the Advanced button. On the Advanced Properties dialog, put a checkmark in the Run as administrator box.

I went round and round just as you are doing and this is what worked.

Hi I have already tried this and still when I press the scan button I get a message saying that MFC-9330 LAN cannot be found. :(

Hi Again .... I set it up wirelessly which the software allows. I have the printer recognising my wireless network and also the printer actually works, I can print to it just not use the scanning feature :(

Yes I definitely tried strollin's fix and basically when I click on the scan button I get the same message as before trying ... MFC-9330 LAN cannot be found.

Update ... I just got this reply from Brother Support ....

Dear .................

Windows 8.1 is still in preview mode and is not officially released. Once the official release of the Windows 8.1 is available our drivers will be updated to account for any changes in the Windows 8.1 software architecture.

We have already noted scanner drivers not working with other customers running Windows 8.1 preview.

Guess I'll have to wait for the official fix !!!
