Windows 8 is showing only 4 cores, instead of 8?

I am an AMD FX 8320 eight core processor, 3.5 ghz
i installed Windows 8 Pro, but when i checked task manager, it is only showing 4 cores.
Please help

Run msconfig and go to boot> advanced options> make sure the number of processors is not set to 4 (uncheck the box if checked).

Update: According to Passmark, it only has 4 physical cores (w/2 logical cores per physical core).

The device manager will also tell you how many cores you have.

I further investigated why Passmark described the FX-8320 as having: No of Cores: 4 (2 logical cores per physical) and I have found out why. See image:

This is the architecture of the FX-8320. Note that it only has "4 true cores" and that each split core shares the L2 and L3 cache.

So, now I understand why Passmark identified the # of cores as 4. What you really have is 4 true cores sharing resources (somewhat like the Intel physical/logical processor arrangement). Nice job AMD, you fooled me on that one! However, I still think they will show up as 8 cores in Windows 8.
