dvd not working under windows 8.1

My dvd palyer is not recognized by windows 8.1 one minute it is there then it's gone. Sometimes I get an error when clicking on dvd icon in explorer, then the dvd icon disappears. Anyone have this problem?

Try this(2):
1) Shut down PC.
2) Physically disconnect the CD/DVD Drive.
3) Reboot to Windows with NO DVD drive.
4) Shut down PC.
5) Physically reconnect the CD/DVD Drive.
6) Reboot to Windows with DVD drive.
7) Check Device status.


Try this (3):
Update all your drivers.

All of your solutions are for windows 8 and older, my problem is with windows 8.1 preview. One option involves the reg and it might screw thing up in 8.1, read somewhere that we should not mess with the preview reg.. Also This is a laptop, not interested in removing dvd from it, something might break. Finally under windows 8 oem dvd works fine, however tried update option thru store, and also tried fresh install with iso,, and both give same error message: "an error occurred when ejecting DVD RW drive E: and then dvd icon goes poof into thin air.
