    Mouse connected but not working

My laptop has been having a problema with the mouse.
When I turn on the PC it works fine, but after some time (10min to a 1h) the pointer stops moving and i cant click with the mouse. Some facts:
    • Normally it makes the unplug sound when this happens
    • The mouse light continues on
    • The PC shows the mouse as connected
    • There is no unknown device in the device manager
    • It happens in all USB ports though changing from one to another temporarily resolves the problema
    • It tried 2 diferent mouse, with the problem showing on bot
    • The touchpad works fine

    Pls help me

I hope you are using a wired mouse; yes? If so, go into device manager and delete any appearances (as shown). You mouse will stop working immediately so you will just have to power off at this point. Power on and let your mouse be rediscovered. This may not be the actual fix but it is something that you should at least try. Good luck.

Find the root hub (in device manager) for your mouse and check to see what else is using that hub (if anything). Check the total power allocation for all devices. Also check other tabs for any signs of issue:

I said what you told me to do.

I have 3 usb ports but there were only 2 generic usb hubs.
These are the results, do you see anything abnormal?

    1st

    2nd

PS: Only the mouse is connected to the usb ports.

Everything looks good in those views. You can try one or more of these suggestions:
BTW, are you using a laptop or desktop? What is the make/model number?

1-Right click on each appearance in USB controller and search for updated drivers
2-Delete USB controllers in device manager and allow the configuration to rebuild on reboot
3-Check the manufacturer website (if applicable) for updates
4-Download the latest Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility (if Intel)
4a-Download the latest AMD SATA drivers (which should include the USB Filters) (if AMD)

Unfortunately, I can't give you any direct links without your specs.

This may be your lucky day (said hesitantly) because my desktop uses the same chipset as yours. See image:

    Attachment 24290

With that said, you have two USB 2.0 controllers and one USB 3.0 controller; yes? If so, I can tell you that the Intel USB 3.0 controllers are know to be problematic. Specifically in the area of recognizing USB 3.0 devices. The other 3rd party controllers do a much better job in this area. So, have you tried the USB 3.0 ports as well as the 2.0 ports? Anyway, there was a recent chipset update released and you can download it here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...?DwnldID=20775

Me laptop was 2 USB ports on the left side (strangely, one 2.0 and one 3.0) and 1 USB port (2.0) on the rigth side
The problem happens mostly on the rigth side one, getting to the point where sometime the mouse disconnects(otherwise, it will just stop working while connected). The problema has happened too on the left side, but less frequentely(I dont know if it happens in both ports cause it is my little brother who uses the laptop).

    Hi filepez,

I thought all of your responses were based on your own personal experience; however, now it appears you are not sure that all ports are suspect; yes? OK, I think I've given you an adequate amount of things to try so please continue your troubleshooting and download that updated chipset driver (if you so desire). So, did any of my recommendations help you today?
