unable to use ahci

im wondering if anyone else is using this mode and if it worked by default or is it not implemented (i dont know why it shouldnt be) or what?

when i try to install with ahci on it informs me it cannot install the os on my hardware... or, interestingly, it somehow manages to install fine, randomly, but when i restart after completion i get the nice new bsod.

or when i turn ahci on in bios after installing with ide i get bsod.

i know how to turn ahci support on through the reg in windows 7 but that specific key isnt there anymore.

e/ the reason i'd like this is for dual boot. i cant boot into osx in ide / cant boot into win8 in ahci

Right here goes, win XP will not work in achi mode, and if you want to duel boot Win 8 and Apple OSX. Then you will have to install Apple OSX first, because of the boot camp on the apple, then install Win8 as a duel boot. You cannot do it the other way around, because of Apple rules(They call that Hackintosh). But I would leave it in IDE mode.

e/ forget it. found a possible solution

ur not understanding me. ive already done this many times with win7. i install it whenever, in ide, and then switch it in the registry to use ahci. when i install osx is irrelevant. no boot camp. chameleon. this is old hat. forget i mentioned osx. xp?

im talking about the registry key to switch windows 8 to use ahci. that is all.
in windows 7 the key is.. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/Msahci
that key is not present in win8.
i'd like to know, from someone who can answer my question, if there is a similar key or technique to make win8 accept ahci or not. ive searched the registry and have come up empty.

Actually Windows Xp WILL work in Achi mode if you load the raid drivers when it states to press F6 and you have them on a floppy of have them slip streamed into the ISO image. I have done this with xp pro and Pro X64
