Hello Everyone,

I'm have a problem with a high definition audio device, it says This device cannot start. (Code 10).
I have tried updating the driver and deleting and reinstalling the device,
nothing has worked.

I can hear sound, but I can not record anything. I have tried several
recording devices, like Audacity and MS Recorder and nothing works.

I have attached captures of my computer information.

I run Windows 8, 64 bit. The computer is only six months old.

Any help or advice will be most appreciated.

Cheers

Rob

Has it ever worked or just not worked right off the bat?

Its probably a chipset driver not installed or incorrect..

Please install all windows updates first, the answer may already be in the patch..

Can you send us a screencap of your device manager showing your AUDIO INPUTS AND OUTPUTS and SOUND VIDEO GAME tabs expanded

Rob's reply to Broklyn

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. The HDAD was working fine and then for no reason it stopped.

I have installed all current Windows updates.

Below is an image of my Device Manager. I hope it's the right thing.

Cheers

That windows update might have downloaded different drivers for sound that is wrong, try rolling back to previous version. It does that for my TV card all the time. Also check for drivers for exact MB revision, sometimes there's difference betveen versions of MB.

Hi Mike,

The Roll Back Driver is greyed out. So I can't do that. But the problem was there before the MS update.

I don't know what MB Revision is. Can you explain?

Thanks for the help, I hope I get there.

Cheers

Most MBs come in different "flavors" . On that picture under "Version" you have "x.ox" which means it is not recognized by that System information, Somewhere on the MB, maybe in the bottom left corner or on a sticker should be marked exact version you have. Between different versions there could be subtle differences but enough to warrant different drivers. In my experience drivers that come with the MB are not necessarily accurate and up to date.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for that, I will have a closer look and see what I can find. I have spoken to ASUS, and they have been usless. They are just not interested at all. I will never buy another ASUS product ever.

Chhers and thanks again

Rob

No probs, I was an Asus fan for long time but last few years their customer care become terrible, but luckily the products are still good. To be honest, all of them (manufactures ) are slipping in that field. Right now I trust Gigabyte the most and their return policy is pretty good.

Yes, I hear you Mike. Well it's still not working, but I have found a way around the problem. When I record I now do it through the VIA High Definition Audio, and not the HDAD. Not that I really understand the difference, but it took a lot of playing around to get my sound to record.

So thanks for nothing ASUS and thanks to this great forum and the people on it. Where would we be with you and others Mike.

Cheers

Rob
