Actually, the reason is slightly different. You wouldn't be able to install security software, because at this point 3rd party desktop software cannot be installed on RT. Meanwhile, all built-in security measures are still present on RT. In other words, Microsoft doesn't pretend that the platform is secure just because it's different and less targeted.

yeah, people target the most common platforms. You'd probably find even less hackers targeting Windows RT than Mac OSX!

For Windows 8 Pro Tablet, you can treat it just like any Windows 8 Pro Desktop or laptop. There is no difference.
Windows 8 Pro already includes a pretty decent Anti-Virus solution (Windows Defender) and a robust Firewall which is fully configurable.
I have everything left at defaults and use Firefox mainly with the usual add-ons without issue.

Using, what I call, a fat finger stylus is what you are using. Which is a capacitive stylus. A Digital Stylus (such as WACOM) with click buttons would give you more control, such as, possibly being able to configure one of the buttons to preform a middle mouse click, or a right mouse click, which is what I did on my Surface Pro by installing the WACOM TabletPC Drivers. (the stylus that comes with it only has a single button, so i made it a middle mouse click) otherwise you have to hold the stylus down till the right click menu comes up.

But, if your tablet does not support Digital WACOM Stylus, then you may not be able to that.

Well for protection for my RT, I just have a slip cover case and the cover keyboard. Seems to do the trick for me.
