I had the Thinkpad 2 coming tomorrow and was wondering how those of you out there like/dislike this tablet? Also do you have any tips/tricks for me or others regarding this specific tablet or Windows 8 tablets in general?

Thanks.

For me personally, I have no use for a tablet like that and for the money, I can best use it elsewhere for upgrades on PC. If I was going that route with some kind of device like a tablet. I would opt for a smart phone, the all in one device...phone, tablet, mp3 player, reader for those who use kindle devices. But that's just me.

Only advice I could give is get it, play with it, google it and check for any forums for that make/model of tablet for tips and tricks.

Thanks, I posted this here in the tablet section as I kind of expected that our forum probably had a few Thinkpad 2 owners whom wouldn't mind sharing their experiences.

Bass, your response is like... a guy goes to a Ford forum to talk about his latest Mustang. And then you chime in that you have no desire to own a Mustang and would rather buy a Toyota. not exactly helpful or useful.

hey Mickey, I'm interested on your thoughts of the tablet. I haven't had a chance to play with it so any input would be much appreciated. If you need any help with the touch interface let me or anyone else here help you out. We're fans of touch so we can probably help out with any questions you have.

my basic advice is this... the whole touch interface is designed around swiping from all 4 edges of your touchscreen. do this for every app to see the features of that app. if you swipe from the right edge leftward, you'll bring up the charms bar which is contextual. meaning the charms bar will adjust to what app is showing. so if you use the search charm while the Mail app is open, it'll search your email. if you use the search while the Wikipedia app is open, it'll search Wikipedia. if you use the settings charm while the Xbox Music app is open, you'll open settings for the Xbox Music app. if you tap settings while the Mail app is open, it'll open settings for the Mail app.

swiping rightward from the left edge of the screen will allow you to switch between apps. if you swipe right and then back to the left edge again, you'll see a complete list of apps.

swiping from the top edge downward or the bottom edge upward will bring up the context menu. this is the same as if you right-click with a mouse.

if you want to copy/paste with touch, it's different than other systems. it's all a bunch of quick taps. you tap on a word. then drag the dot to surround the text. then tap on copy/move/paste.

to close the app, swipe from the top edge all the way to the bottom edge. If you don't close an app, it's okay because the app will get suspended and not take up any resources (until it's an app that requires a constant data connection like streaming music).

to have multiple Modern apps side by side, it's like the Windows 7 method of snapping. you put your finger at the top edge of the screen and then drag the app to the side of the screen you want to snap the app.

here's a vid to start:

Just stating my personal opinion on tablets....sorry that offended you. For me they are nothing more than gimmick, a play thing with no real value, a fad. Every one has there own opinions and are entitled to them...no reason to be little any one for doing so.

As for the advice I gave, although general and simple as it may seem it was sound advice. I expect anyone with a some cognitive reasoning would do some simple basic research on there own, as I do, as any one should.

Thanks dirtyvu. And yes Bass your opinion is valid with no problem but I posted this in a tablet/touch forum so if you're against tablets why hang out here?

I just would like to see a thread discussing this tablet like there are threads discussing the Pro and other tablets.

I just use the new post link and went from there...didn't pay attention to the actual subtopic forum...that would be my fault for sure.

Happy tableting!

Thanks, I'm a tablet guy for sure as I've owned all 4 ipads, 3 Asus Android tablets, the Galaxy Note 10.1, and even the Ativ 500T, a Windows 8 tablet. But it was too big to tote around at 11.5 inches so that's why I'm getting the Lenovo.

No no I try to keep it to 2-3 so right now I own the iPad 4 and the Note 10.1. But once I get the Thinkpad 2 tomorrow morning from UPS I plan to sell my iPad to my boss. Then I will probably sell the Note in a couple of months because I'm sure I'll want the ipad 5 with ios 7 sometime this fall.

My wife calls me an electronic slut!:geek:

I'm a tablet guy as well. though more for fun than for any real work (save that for my desktop/laptops).

Another big tablet junkie checking in! Currently have:

iOS: iPad 3, iPad 1

Andriod:
Asus TF700T, Asus TF101, Vizio VTAB 1008

Windows 8:
Samsung Series Slate 7, Sony VAIO Duo 11

That said. I'm still looking for the ideal tablet...

I understand the "ideal tablet" search! So far I'm really liking the Think Pad 2. In my recent flurry of tablet attempts I came away with a list of things I was currently looking for.

1) 10.1 inch form factor - I loved the Samsung Ativ 500T and it was great at work and even at home but in the car and at church it was just too big at 11.5 and it felt awkward to me.

2) Wacom style digitizer - I am now spoiled to using a stylus and not one of the fluffy cushion style that most tablets require but the hard tipped pen like style. What a world of difference for writing and drawing!

3) Windows Pro and not RT - I do use my tablet in a work/home environment and I want to be able to get things other than what is available in the Windows Store

4) Battery Life - 10 hours is overkill for me as I am most always around an outlet but I never want to be tied down to the 3-4 hours that the Surface Pro offers. So yes i3 or i5 processor would be great but I'll gladly take the extra 6 hours battery life, reduced weight, and much reduced cost to have the Atom processor.

5) Performance - I can't stand lag... PERIOD! Lag is unacceptable! I'm very happy to say that in most of my Windows 8 tablet trials I have not noticed the lag issues that reviewers complain about with the Atom processors. I am not a big media consumer or a big game player. I use Office 2013, I surf the web, I check a ton of email, I read, I am heavily task oriented with To-Do Prime, I do some PDF work, etc... When watching youtube or videos it is best to do so from Windows 8 apps to avoid lag so I don't consider these work arounds I consider these the method provided for a smooth operation for my machine to work. I bought this knowing that it is an Atom processor.

Early results after 2 days:
1) My iPad is being sold this weekend to my boss after I have gotten all the info off that I want on my TP2
2) My Galaxy Note 10.1 will probably go the route of Ebay in a week or 2 and then I will be down to 1 tablet!

This is that good in my opinion!
