Solved usb 3.0 or usb 2.0???

Hi there,

Quick question. I have a windows 8 HTPC with 7 usb inputs. Problem is 2 of them are usb 3.0 and the rest usb 2.0. I can't figure out which one is which! Is there some sort of procedure to find out? ie put a usb stick in and reading some sort of report?

Im a macboy so im not to familiar with Windows.

A USB 3.0 port is usually coloured blue.

The book should be available if you didn't get one and it should tell you. Just looked and as above - mine is blue, did not know that, learn something every day, now if the old memory banks will remember it tomorrow the new info will be of good use:)

It has a blue middle core and usually in the back of the cpu.

hmmmm all good points. Ive discovered I have two white ports at the front and five black ports at the back. I'm guessing its they are the two white ones yet is there any software side of things i can do to firm this up?

USB 3 should always display the "SS" logo (SuperSpeed USB)

    I also keep two USB 3 thumb drives (A: and B:) attached with boot recovery and security stuff that I can boot into from BIOS in case of emergency
Count the pins. USB 2 has 4 pins and USB 3 has 9 pins (one row of 4 and one row of 5) As a USB 3 port can also handle USB 2 devices, the 4 pins are for USB 2 and the 5 for USB3.
