Issues with USB devices since installing W8

Ever since installing Windows 8, I've been having issues with certain USB devices not working (when they were working fine in W7). I've installed all of the proper drivers for my system, and even made sure that it wasn't the devices failing themselves by testing it on two other systems.

First is my android mobile phone. All of the proper drivers load up when the device is plugged in. When USB transfer mode is enabled on the phone, the Android UMS driver will appear under device manager. However that's as far as it will go, Windows 8 will not access the sdcard through the driver (as it's supposed to, and does on both a W7 and XP system). Any attempt to access the device properties also causes severe slowdown and lockups until the USB cable is pulled from the phone's port.

Second is my printer's mulitcard reader (HP Photosmart C4180). None of the media's that are inserted in the reader will show up on my W8 PC, but will show up and work fine on both other PC's.

The drivers are up to date for all of the devices, it's just my W8 machine that doesn't want to work properly.

Is this through a hub or directly on the usb ports built in?

Can you see the driver date on your chipset?

The latest drivers ive seen for your chipset are for Win7 x64 with a date of 2009, if yours are older than download the most recent from asus..

ASUS - M4N72-E

The printer issue stopped after having to open up the printer due to a bad paper jam. The ribbon cable that runs to the multicard reader had become loose on the header (just coincidentally started to become problematic after the install). Now it's just the same issue with the mobile phone.

The mobile phone shows up in device manager no matter if i'm using a hub or the ports on the motherboard. I've got no issues connecting to the phone via ADB or using the phone as a modem, just the USB storage (to transfer files back and forth) doesn't work. The screenshot below shows the 4 devices that are listed when the phone is plugged in (Samsung devices). In this screenshot, I have not turned USB mass storage mode on the phone on.
Device Manager.jpg

When USB mass storage mode is turned on, the devices are still listed and ADB will still communicate with the phone. Any attempt to view the "Anroid UMS Composite USB device" properties will cause the properties window in Device Manager to stop responding until the phone is unplugged, at which point the properties window will show up as normal.

On the other PC's that I checked (1 Acer Laptop, 2 different friends computers, and my work computer) the device mounted and displayed a listing of the files on the micro sdcard (automatically). None of the computers were running Windows 8, only versions ranging from XP to 7.

Chipset (nForce 750a SLI) drivers are listed as being up to date according to nVidia's own update software (15.56 released 05/02/2011).

Drivers should be fine..

When i connect my samsung to Windows 8, it will show the drives on my phone, but will not allow windows to access it until I press (connect USB storage) on the phone itself, even though in the settings I have it to always connect as mass storage..

I see no other reason for you not to have access to it if you can see it, unless the phone itself is denying you access..

It's funny that I managed to get hold of a family member's laptop which dual boots both Windows 7 (32-bit) and Windows 8 (32 bit), and I was only able to get mass storage mode to connect in Windows 7.

When I attempted to connect in Windows 8, the phone showed as being connected (and mass storage mode was enabled), however the laptop (HP Pavilion DV-7) would do the same thing that my desktop would do, even to the point that device manager would hang until the device was unplugged when attempting to view the properties tab on the UMS device. Attempting to "disconnect USB storage" on the phone would result in the phone going unresponsive until the cable was removed (same exact thing that happens on my desktop running W8).

That would make several different computers which were running various versions of Windows from XP through 7, where the phone would connect, however in W8, the phone would no longer connect via "connect USB storage". Additionally, there is no way for the phone to deny access to "USB storage mode" on only PC's running Windows 8 (there is no way to block the "connect USB mode" without running a custom ROM on the phone that has had the UMS storage app removed).

Here's the phone mounted (and working on my Windows XP laptop, which is used for work).
Windows XP Working 3.png
As you can see, the phone has mounted the SD card (as it should when USB mass storage is enabled) and is enumerating properly (listed as drive E:). I am able to browse the card with no problems (the phone even un-mounts properly when hitting the "Turn off USB storage", and doesn't hang up until the cable is unplugged).

Now moving to the Windows 8-x64 PC (which has just been reformatted and all drivers clean installed), using the same data cable (Samsung official cable that came with the phone). After downloading the driver's directly from Samsung's site, installing them, then restarting the PC, the phone is picked up with driver complaints.
Windows 8 Plugged in.png

After enabling USB mass storage mode (by tapping the USB connected notification, and hitting "Turn on USB storage"), Windows explorer will start showing a progress bar (as if doing a folder search) when attempting to access any drive (Drives H:, I:, J:, and K:, are the slots on the printer's card reader, Drive M: is the phone).
Windows 8 Try to browse.png

Also, after plugging in the phone and attempting to open the drive (which gives the above image, and the load/progress bar on the path doesn't go away until unplugged), all of the Card reader ports on the printer, and the phone go to a Error symbol in Device Manager (the Portable Devices section).
Windows 8 Errors.png

And any attempt to open up the properties tab for the "Android UMS Composite USB Device" (Which is the device name for the mass storage driver), will result in Device Manager "Not Responding" for around 10-15 minutes before finally showing the properties window (which lists everything as working normally). Any attempt to populate the volume list (which worked fine on XP) results in yet another "Not Responding" situation, this time only stopping if the phone is unplugged from the cable.
Windows 8 Errors 1.png

During this time as well, hitting the "Turn off USB storage" button on the phone will cause the phone to hang (again until the phone's cable is unplugged), resulting in the phone being listed as "Unknown Device" when plugged back in (until the phone is rebooted), and on occasion requiring the changing of USB port that the phone was plugged in to before recognizing the phone again.
