Asus VivoTab Smart - restore recovery partition?

My tablet is running fine, but I did something (not bright) which could leave me in a lurch later. Here's what I did, and what I'm looking for.

Soon after I purchased my Asus VivoTab Smart, I made a USB recovery disk, complete with recovery partition. Then, to save disk space on the tablet, I deleted the recovery partition on the tablet. So far, so good. Where I blew it was when I got my flash drives mixed up and then erased my USB recovery disk! The tablet runs fine, but if I ever want to refresh it or do a reset, I need the recovery partition, either on the tablet or on a flash drive.

Is it possible to get that partition back?

    Thanks for your help.

if you just got the tablet, I'd contact Asus right away and see if they have a solution for you.

as for recovery from flash drives, the chances are pretty poor for an entire partition and also not worth the effort. if the flash drive has not been written to or changed in anyway since you deleted it, the odds are better but it's still not worth the effort. it's better to see what Asus can do. Or just exchange that machine for another one and be extra careful next time.

You're right in that this isn't worth too much effort. The tablet runs fine. I was only concerned about a hypothetical situation, one that I may or may not come upon.

I also contacted Asus, and heard from a rep today. I was told to put the tablet onto recovery mode and then given some steps to follow. Now, I usually follow instructions pretty well. Still, I could not get the tablet into recovery mode after several tries.

I was told to connect the power adapter, then to keep pressing the power key on the login screen to force the device to shut down. Repeat two or three times until the tablet enters recovery mode. I tried this several times and several ways, but the tablet wouldn't enter recovery mode. If I can get this far, the rest of the instructions look straightforward. It's not something I want to put a lot of time in, even though I like tinkering. If anyone else has succeeded at this, tell me how you did it! Thanks.

the reason you take care of the problem now is if you ever do need it, you're not stuck in a predicament.

Thanks. I tried doing that after I had wiped my flash drive, and I was able to do this even without a recovery partition on my hard drive. I have that flash drive in a safe spot. Still, it's my understanding that, without the recovery partition, I can't refresh the tablet or restore it to factory condition. As long as I never need to sell or give the tablet to someone else, no problem!

There's an interesting thought. Do you suppose they'd let me if they saw me?

Yes. If I can get them to play a James Bond theme in the background, or maybe Mission Impossible?

Just tell them you are testing something with the tablet. Or heck if it comes to it talk to a manager and explain you need a copy of recovery for this tablet because you accidentally deleted yours. There is no reason why they wouldn't let you. If need to, bring in your tablet to prove you have it.
