    Win 8 x64 can't detect DVD-RW LG GSA-H10H

I installed win 8 x64 DP with no problem ...
Today I can't see my internal DVD on my computer. Open PC, checked hardware connections and no problems found.
Turned computer on and no DVD still there.
Sundenly when browsing for a folder I saw the DVD driver there ?!?!? Even used to install Office ...
I go to device manager, push button to check new hardware and system doesn't recognize the drive.
Downloaded the driver from LG but the software says it can't find the unit.
    Can you please help me?

    Windows 7 and Windows 8

I just registered on the forums due to this same issue. I am running an Asus Crosshair IV Extreme motherboard. I have installed the chipset drivers as well as RAID drivers to attempt to correct this issue.

I have read on other forums that many people are having this same issue. The older IDE drives seem to work just fine, and some people are not having any issues with their SATA drives.

Any input from others would be much appreciated for myself and the original poster I am sure.

You try those Windows 7 fixes.
    Try this (1):

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

Your CD or DVD drive can't read or write media

The CD drive or the DVD drive does not work as expected on a computer that you upgraded to Windows Vista

    Try this(2):
    1) Shut down PC.
    2) Physically disconnect the CD/DVD Drive.
    3) Reboot to Windows with NO DVD drive.
    4) Shut down PC.
    5) Physically reconnect the CD/DVD Drive.
    6) Reboot to Windows with DVD drive.
    7) Check Device status.

Is there an issue between Windows 8 and DVD drives?

    Let me join the club.
Running Windows 8 x86 here. After a fresh install (and I tried this twice) the system was able to recognize the DVD drive at the beginning. But after some minutes of usage the same drive tottaly disappeared without leaving traces and the device manager doesn't show any DVD unit.
Since I'm dual booting between Windows 7 & 8, I know there's nothing wrong with the DVD because it's working in Windows 7 and perfectly identified: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-222AB ATA Device
So what's going on between Windows 8 and DVD drives?!

    Weird update:
I've just discovered that if I "awake" the DVD driver during the boot it will appear in My Computer and Device Manager after the login... lololol...
Check if this works with you too:
    1. Restart your PC with the Win8 DVD - Press a key to boot from the CD - Right after this you can Crtl-Alt-Del to restart the PC once again
    2. Keep the DVD inside the device but this time don't press a key to boot from the CD - Logon to your account and see if your DVD drive is ready to use
This is just a test, not a solution, because the next time you boot the DVD drive will be gone... unless you do this trick again.

Log into W7 and go to Device Manager. In there drill to your CD/DVD drive, right click it, Properties, drivers, driver details.

There you will see the .dlls and where they are. Copy each .dlls (taking note of the locations of each) into a folder.

And then log into W8 and copy the .dll files for that folder into the same corresponding locations.

    Try that.

Now that actually makes more since than anything! That is a good idea Aem! I am going to give that a shot.
