I installed win 8 x64 DP with no problem ...
Today I can't see my internal DVD on my computer. Open PC, checked hardware connections and no problems found.
Turned computer on and no DVD still there.
Sundenly when browsing for a folder I saw the DVD driver there ?!?!? Even used to install Office ...
I go to device manager, push button to check new hardware and system doesn't recognize the drive.
Downloaded the driver from LG but the software says it can't find the unit.
Can you please help me?
Thanks!

I just registered on the forums due to this same issue. I am running an Asus Crosshair IV Extreme motherboard. I have installed the chipset drivers as well as RAID drivers to attempt to correct this issue.

I have read on other forums that many people are having this same issue. The older IDE drives seem to work just fine, and some people are not having any issues with their SATA drives.

Any input from others would be much appreciated for myself and the original poster I am sure.

You try those Windows 7 fixes.
Try this (1):

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

Your CD or DVD drive can't read or write media

The CD drive or the DVD drive does not work as expected on a computer that you upgraded to Windows Vista

Try this(2):
1) Shut down PC.
2) Physically disconnect the CD/DVD Drive.
3) Reboot to Windows with NO DVD drive.
4) Shut down PC.
5) Physically reconnect the CD/DVD Drive.
6) Reboot to Windows with DVD drive.
7) Check Device status.

Is there an issue between Windows 8 and DVD drives?

Let me join the club.
Running Windows 8 x86 here. After a fresh install (and I tried this twice) the system was able to recognize the DVD drive at the beginning. But after some minutes of usage the same drive tottaly disappeared without leaving traces and the device manager doesn't show any DVD unit.
Since I'm dual booting between Windows 7 & 8, I know there's nothing wrong with the DVD because it's working in Windows 7 and perfectly identified: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-222AB ATA Device
So what's going on between Windows 8 and DVD drives?!

Weird update:
I've just discovered that if I "awake" the DVD driver during the boot it will appear in My Computer and Device Manager after the login... lololol...
Check if this works with you too:
1. Restart your PC with the Win8 DVD - Press a key to boot from the CD - Right after this you can Crtl-Alt-Del to restart the PC once again
2. Keep the DVD inside the device but this time don't press a key to boot from the CD - Logon to your account and see if your DVD drive is ready to use :p
This is just a test, not a solution, because the next time you boot the DVD drive will be gone... unless you do this trick again.

Log into W7 and go to Device Manager. In there drill to your CD/DVD drive, right click it, Properties, drivers, driver details.

There you will see the .dlls and where they are. Copy each .dlls (taking note of the locations of each) into a folder.

And then log into W8 and copy the .dll files for that folder into the same corresponding locations.

Try that.

Well I tried the copy/paste .dll files which did not seem to help even after a reboot. However what I just did is do a restart and inserted a disk into my DVD drive and allowed it to boot into Windows. Now the drive is recognized?

Now what I am going to do is reboot without a disk in the drive, and once in Windows insert a disk and see if the operating system recognizes the disk/drive. Will update once I reboot. :)

EDIT: Now that I rebooted without a disk in the drive the operating system WILL NOT recognize the DVD drive when I insert a disk.....Very odd indeed LOL. I am sure that this will be figured out once the system is ready for release LOL.

In Details of the Property box, under dropdown section. Can you screenshot the "Hardware IDs"

Aem, are you talking about the DVD drive within Windows 7? or within Windows 8?

Interesting enough, I booted with a system disk in and it will recognize the DVD drive from then on without issues until a reboot without a system disk inserted. I also inserted a random game disk, rebooted and the operating system would NOT recognize the optical drive. It would seem as though it is a code within the operating system disks. I tried this with both Windows 7 disk and Windows 8 disk and after inserting both disks, it would recognize the drive as long as I stay in Windows 8.

Interesting to say the least LOL.

Both if ok ?

Awesome man, will do both LOL. Of course in Windows 8 I will have to boot with a system disk inserted.

Also updated my system specs to reflect on what hardware I am running in case this would possibly have some impact on the scenario......Hmm, did not include my optical drive LOL. Will do that now.

From experience the drivers for these drives are just firmware updates, or if .dlls are corrupt, you could just copy them over. What's the make and model of you laptop?

First it is not a laptop Aem, it is a self built desktop. I included my system specks to reflect that so that people can compare system specks.;)

Now, here is the screenshot from Windows 7:

And this one is from the Windows 8 once I have the DVD drive recognized........Notice that the second driver file is not included? I copied and pasted that file within the Driver folder in System32?

Not sure what the heck is going on with that:sarc:

Weird how the other dll is not showing up, and could be the missing link. Are you are sure it's copied over without any errors?

What happen when you scan for new hardware in Device Manager?
