I am using Dell xps 8300 desktop,it came with windows 7 ultimate 64 bit preloaded.

subsequently I have upgraed to windows 8 pro 64 bit.it has 19-in-1 card reader.

I have downloaded and intalled windows 8 drivers from "dell community wiki link" by natakuc4.

The Foxconn icon manager I have downloaded and installed is version 2.2.915.108 shows in control panel programs & features as

Mutimedia card reader by fitipowder.

In device manager under disc drives,it shows as

Generic-Compact flash USB Device
Generic -MS/MS-Pro USB Device
Generic-SD/MMC USB Device
Generic-Sm/xD-Picture USB Device

All with the driver as

Driver provider -microsoft
Driver date- 21/06/2006
Driver version- 6.2.9200.16384. inf as disk.inf.

when ever I insert a card in the card reader ,it does not show in windows explorer(ie with in 'computer')

But shows in disk management with out drive letter, so I have to assign a drive letter to explore the card under
windows explorer.

I use to eject or remove this thro safe remove of usb devices after using the card reader.

The icons of card reader is not showing in windows exporer.

How to solve this issue, since i am not sure foxconn icon manager after installing is active or not.

Do not use safe eject.

its not showing up because its still waiting for you to eject the (physical) drive and not the media..

Reassign the drive letters and just pull the sd cards willy nilly...

First off I would only download Dell drivers directly from Dell. Then if Dell doesn't have any 8 drivers then go to each hardware vendors site for 8 drivers if they have any.

I thinking it's a driver issue...go to Dell and download the 7 64 bit driver and install it in compatibility mode.

Hello,
I am extremely sorry ,I was not connected due to power problem and aslo I was out.

Mr Brooklyn567 ,noted your suggestion.

when ever the system is booted whether I inserted the card or not , windows explorer shound show the
mutimedia card icons,as it shows the cd/dvd drives.since card reader is also a drive, like cd/dvd drive.

and i have installed foxconn card reader . even when iwas using windows 7 ,foxconn card reader was installed it use to show
the card reader icon.it is for 64 bit and it was preinstalled by dell, and itis the same from dell download for window 7 64 bit for
my pc model.

when i upgraded to window 8 64 bit and installed windows 8 drivers from dell community this problem

may be as suggested my Mr.bassfisher6522 it is a driver compatibilty issue so windows 8 by default goes for

generic drivers.

i will try to install the fox conn driver in compatibility mode and see how it come out.

thanking you
