I installed a Samsung 840 Pro ssd to my Acer laptop a couple of days ago.I noticed that the led light for the hard drive flashes continuously.Does this do any harm to the ssd or is this normal with a ssd.I know that by disabling the DVD drive, this stops the flashing but am more concerned if this is harming the ssd.Could anyone help me out?

When HDD led flashing meaning that there's some activity is going on that access your SSD, whether it is running some background processes or maybe your Norton Internet security is monitoring your files on the SSD that requires a READ operation. It should not hurt your SSD. HDD led has nothing to do with your DVD and your DVD drive also has an LED which will flash when you insert a CD/DVD into your DVD.

EDIT: For testing purpose, disable Norton to see if it stops.

Thank you for your reply. The reason I mentioned the dvd was that I had googled it and someone had disabled their dvd and this stopped the light flashing which it did on mines.I disabled Norton, uninstalled Samsung Magician software, disconnected Internet, but the led still flashes continuously. My son in law has a Kingston ssd installed in his laptop but doesn,t have the continuous flashing light.

Maybe you should check if you have the latest BIOS firmware installed in your Laptop and since you have Samsung Magician Installed, I assume that you've already updated your SSD firmware.
