Don't underestimate the slowness of Atom. Besides, 2 seconds is outrageous. It should be instantaneous and should pull everything from the cache because we are usually talking about few minutes.
Atom's are rather slow, obviously. But IE 9-10 and upcoming 11 are all GPU powered as well with the CPU; so the Intel graphics on it are probably rather slow as well.
Atom SOC as a whole is slow. CPU, GPU as well as aging DDR2.

I thought the newer Atom chips use DDR3 now? Wasn't that a first gen thing?

And, the Atom is now an SoC chip? Really?

It's still DDR2 and starting from Clovertrail, ATOM is an SoC - afaik.

According to Wikipedia, it's the next generation - the one called Baytrail - that's getting DDR3 support. And it's going to be quad core - compared to dual core hyper threaded in Clovertrail.

there's nothing wrong with DDR2. it's slower than DDR3 but type of RAM is only one relatively small factor in speed of a system. Of course, if you're getting a new system, you're going to get DDR3 but RAM is far less important than CPU, GPU, and things like SATA vs eMMC.

it's not slow because it's DDR2. it's slow because it's an Atom processor. Atom has come a long way, but it's still an Atom. Lots of reason why Baytrail will be a big jump over Clovertrail. But I wouldn't say DDR3 is the reason.

I wasn't saying it's slow because of DDR2 but they all add up, don't they?
