Solved Unable to load drivers for new hardware

Hi,
I have been trying for several days to install a webcam and a wireless dongle on my Windows 8 PC. I know I have the software and drivers for both - I have the disks and/or updates from Manufacturers sites. When I install I get the message that Windows is unable to find the drivers. When I "point" windows in the right direction I generally get the message "The configuration registry database is corrupt". At the beginning of my attempts to load the hardware I did get a message that windows could not load the drivers because windows update was set not to install driver updates. I haven't seen this message since. I have googled and read lots of advice but so far nothing that helps.
I would be grateful for any help.
Thanks
colf

In many cases drivers wont load because windows was not ready for them, do the windows updates first and either windows will load the drivers automatically or will lay the foundation for your drivers via chipset updates or other means..
