    Drive letter dissapears after restart

First of all, thanks for all the valuable tutorials Brink. They have saved me a lot of time in the past...
My question is this: I have a windows to go installation in a large external hdd, so I have made a second partition to use as data storage.
Now, when I insert the disk on my "normal" windows installation I would expect the data partition to be available...
Instead I have to assign a letter to be able to use it.
The disk appears to be online and once assigned a letter you can unplug it and plug it again without having to do the letter assignment again.
BUT, every time I restart the pc I have to do it all over again.
Is there a permanent fix for this?
    Thanks

Hello LSDalKa, and welcome to Eight Forums.

It may be a conflicting drive letter if another removable drive ever used the same letter. You might see if changing the drive letter to something like Z: that has never been used may help.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Thanks for the response.
It is certainly not a letter conflict. Windows on my internal disk recognizes SOMEHOW that the external HDD contains a windows-to-go installation in one of the two partitions and is not assigning a letter to any partition on the disk.
If I knew that "somehow" maybe I could think of something.
Also, with Linux you can select which drives get mounted on startup. Is there anything similar in Windows?

I went ahead and moved the thread here since it wasn't on topic with the tutorial.

Could you post a screenshot showing the full layout of your Disk Management window, and indicate which disk is this one? Maybe something will show as a cause.

    Thanks for moving the post.
The problem is not there anymore. This is strange cause it was happening for a week now.
Anyway thanks once again. Should I mark it as solved?
