    External HD not recognized

My Seagate GoFlex 500 isn't showing up in Windows. Disk Management sees it, but there's no feasible option there. It's not a blank drive, so I can't make a new simple volume, only delete it.

I have important data on there. What gives?

    Hi there
If it's properly formatted and you can SEE it in disk management simply Right Mouse click on the disk and then choose assign (or change) drive Letter. Choose one from the drop down and after a few seconds the computer will recognize the device.

Sometimes especially if you switch drives between machines this happens -- it can be caused by the "Disk signature". There is a way of changing this -- I can't remember the link and I don't bother -- just assigning a volume letter is simple enough so that's what I do.

    Cheers

I'll give it a try, thanks. Right now I'm dealing with another hard drive issue.

Only the Realtek internal mic is...

I am running Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit. I have a WD "red" HDD connected externally in a NexStar-NX box. The NexStar supports USB 3.0 and eSATA. The USB 3.0 connection works fine and shows up in WIN 8.1 disk manager and all files are accessable. When I use a eSATA cable (have tried 2 different ones) the...

I have a Sony Vaio all in one but it doesn't have a cd drive. I've purchased two and neither were recognized by Windows 8. Has anyone found a USB optical drive that they can reccomended? What's funny (or sad) is that the suggested accessory on Sonys website for a optical drive has a review on it...
I keep two external drives as backups (ok, maybe overkill, but 40 years in IT makes me uber-cautious), both 500GB USB 2.0. I use a USB hub for them, printer, flatbed scanner, etc. Clicking on Win8's 'computer' to see connected devices will initially ONLY show ONE of the drives - I have to...
