If you think about it you see how windows rt can be used for multimeadia. Though its restricted and stuff, you could still use it for videos, music, web, and some news and etc. It may seem stupid but it can be useful for just a simple arm tablet with the windows 8 interface on it. The market will grow so comeon its not like it'll be updating so you'll always be ahead and etc.

Depends on who you ask...

I say it's MUCH more useful than the ipad by a galaxy, and much more useful than an android tablet by a long mile. You just don't have third party Desktop apps, so you're left with the metro apps, File Explorer, and the whole Desktop feature set excluding I Storage Spaces and a few other things I believe.

If you're looking for a secondary PC that won't be used for a ton of things, outside of Office 2013, Windows RT is by far the best choice. Can you manage your iphone with an ipad? No. Can you manage an android smartphone on an android tablet? No. Can you manage a Windows Phone or even android smartphones with Windows RT? Yes. Can you use most printers without issue?

It's the simple things like that which makes Windows RT stand out. As I see it, RT is the best ARM based operating platform out there. Some hackers have been able to remove Desktop app restrictions on it, and opens the potential for open sourced Desktop apps on RT. Last I heard of, some Russian hacker claimed to have 80% of Win32 coding of Desktop apps working on RT.

But going in the future, it's iffy to me. Once Intel gets better power efficiency and connected standby on their iCore chips as well as AMD with their APUs, Windows RT with the ARM processor doesn't sound too appealing. Even with a current Intel Atom, you can get real good battery life, I think even all day battery life almost as well. But again, when a more efficient crop of x86 based 64 bit capable chips get released, RT doesn't sound real good. It might just be a stopgap measure until then though I guess...

I use my Windows RT tab as my primary mobile device and it has few short comings. Using it to do this quick reply. Through the day I get and answer email from our exchange server, obtain client data and file from Skydrive, read all kinds of documents, and do light Word and Excel editing. I find Windows RT highly useful. Major weakness at this point is the lack of a broad base of apps.

I agree with you all the way. There are also lots of jai:break stuff and etc. So it has a community in my opinion. So the surface rt might be quite useful.

the main problem with windows rt is the lack of apps. if this gets solved, it becomes a great option as it's more hardware-light and battery friendly than windows 8.

did you try out rayman jungle run? lots of fun and cheap too. I think $2.99.

don't forget about The Gunstringer one. that's fun too. a bit simple but suprisingly kills the time well.

Question: When you speak of apps, are you speaking of Win32 programs or MS Store apps? RT does not run apps from Google or Apple? Just wondering. :)

RT tablets have potential, but with their current lack of apps, I'd say get a Windows 8 tablet instead.

In my reply I was speaking of MS Store apps. There are lots of good ones like Evernote, ESPN, Nextissue and MetroTwit, but many of the more specialized apps just aren't being written for WinRT.

Love my Surface RT, desktop is great to have and could care less for legacy applications. However, agree that more apps need to get rolling for it but having a browser that supports flash makes up for a lot.
