Solved network adapter problems with my win8 upgrade

heyya everybody i had a pc running on win7(32-bit) and had done custom(clean)install of win8 pro i.e, i Have a dual booting pc... and my problem is i should install my motherboard CD on dat OS(win8) to have all needed drivers... and the problem is my motherboard cd is already installed on win7 and when i tried dis cd on win 8 os it was blank!!.
plz help...... i need those motherboard drivers ...... i have something like....... DH55PJ kind of intel motherboard.... and wish to install the
1)LAN DRIVER
2) INTEL HD GRAPHICS
3) SOUND CARD driver
I'm not much a player of these big things of handling opearating systems...... but take a fair risk in completing dis task
and plz can any post a link where i could install my desired drivers for dis windows 8 pro??

If you look on the left side of the page you'll see drivers and downloads, I think you'll find them there.

does windows 8 need motherboard drivers?

i met a computer solutions guy for getting the motherboard drivers for win8 ... but he said that win8 doesnt need any MB drivers..... they come pre-installed and get updated through windows updates...... is it true?....

I don't know whoever told you that. You should always install the chipset drivers after any Windows Install. The hardware built into your motherboard depends on the chipset to make it go. The USB frequently will not function properly. Chipset drivers may also improve the performance of your IDE/SATA bus, improving data transfer speeds, systems power saving features. If not installed, sometimes can cause a system to hang on entering or exiting hibernation or sleep mode.

Windows Updates does not install/update chipset drivers and without chipset drivers installed. You'll see "Unknown Device" with yellow exclamation mark in the Device Manager

hey thanx i ran intels driver update update utility and installed the chipset drivers...... but cud u tell me how do i check whether it is been installed??....... and also i've come through an other problem which is something...... GFXUI..... When i right-clicked on desktop and tried to open graphics properties a window popped up and exlaimed....... GFXUI Has stopped working........ what is this and how do i fix dis?....

Your advice is always "spot on"; however, I don't think the chipset drivers are "always" required anymore. I started to detail my reasons why but (fortunately) I found this article that pretty much says it for me:

The Proper Way to Fully Install Intel Chipset Driver

In summary, I haven't installed the Intel chipset drivers since my initial XP installation (circa 2005?) and I have not experienced any negative impact on Windows 7 and/or Windows 8 (thus far). Moreover, if the above article is accurate, you would have to "force" the installation of the inf files if you attempt to install them "after the fact" (eg, after the device drivers have been installed). So, case in point, my Windows 8 installation correctly identified and auto-installed all device drivers so installing the inf files (after the fact) would do me no good. Food for thought...

Hello salim96,

My first though (regarding your question) would be that the motherboard is common to both OSs in a dual boot situation. Now, with that said, I would strongly recommend that you "back up" and start again by fully identifying your system specs (including the name of the manufacturer/model number if prebuilt or by listing individual component IDs). Moreover, if prebuilt, you need to visit the manufacturer's website for updated Windows 8 drivers for the (unknown) LAN, Intel HD Graphics, and Sound Card Drivers. IMHO, I would go for the LAN driver first, then access Windows Update and apply all updates to current, and you might be delightfully surprised to find that all of your problems have been solved.

hey thanx mr.no repli i've re-installed windows 8 and had done nothing with the motherboard drivers... but i could access internet that too on my own pc!!..... then ran windows update..... but..... i've got that GFXUI Problem when i opened my graphic properties... how do i fix it?

Again, what are your system specs? Are you using embedded or external graphics? Need more info.

I am sorry but I disagree with this article and the chipset drivers do install drivers, not just .inf files. A while back I helped this guy with http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-crashes-debugging/19034-random-restarts-2.html#post184955 involving chipset drivers. Even though he did not mark it SOLVED but I assume that it is SOLVED since he did not come back.

FYI, The chipset is usually made up of two chips: the northbridge and the southbridge. Sometimes there's just one chip in which case it's still called a chipset. Most chipset drivers come as a single package which contains the various drivers for each chip. You just install the chipset driver and it takes care of setting up drivers for each of the chips.

As I said in earlier post, the chipset drivers can affect the speed and stability of many of the devices built into your motherboard. It is common for computers to be running with the basic default drivers built into Windows.If you're having any kind of stability problems with your motherboard then it's a good idea to install the latest chipset drivers. In your case, you have been running with the basic default drivers built in Windows and of course most of the time it'll work but not with full functional features. One obvious example is when you install Windows, Windows will install a basic generic Video driver but does it have all the bell and whistle that your Video card provides ? the answer is NO until you install the driver from the manufacturer. Another example is some of the threads where people having problems with Network connection intermittently dropped or slow, it is because they have been using the default driver for the network adapter and of course you can download the individual driver for the network adapter and the problem will be fixed but why not installing the chipset drivers where all the drivers for your MB built in devices. Below is a screen shot of part of the device manager for my network adapter, without installing the chipset drivers, I'll not have the NVIDIA nForce driver installed for my Network Adapter but I'd be using the Microsoft built in driver.



And here's a typical chipset for my MB. Each chip controls certain built in devices on the MB.



So my number 1 rule is after a fresh install of Windows. The first thing I install is chipset drivers and turn off Autorun.

I wish I could find one bit of supporting Intel documentation that clearly states "You must always install the chipset drivers." Have you found something to that effect, and, if so, could you please share it? Thanks, as always, for your attention to detail.

If you read my first post, I said "should always" not "must always". In your case, it's working with the basic default drivers but the question is: do the devices work with full functionality ?. In some other cases, without chipset drivers iinstalled, there will be some devices listed in the Device Manager as "Unknown Drivers" which indicate that the basic default drivers are not fully compatible with MB built in devices and that's a good enough reason for "should always" install the chipset drivers.

yep still alive..... so....... following topgundcp's advice i've installed chipset drivers on my pc............. and i'm planning to install some other network adaptor........... will it be ok?... any suggestions on network adapter mr.rodney and topgundcp??

HOORAY! You are still here! OK, so you decided to install the chipset drivers as advised by topgundcp; good... but how are you making out on resolving your original problems (eg, what is still not working at this point) and why are you now trying to install "some other network adapter" and what kind of network adapter might that be? Also, please provide the manufacturer name/model number for your PC.
