Intel Bay trail and Amd Tamesh chip

*These are all facts I've got from websites.* One major thing is you'll be able to find it in android tablets too. They will be as thin As 8mm. And will be able to clock up to 2.4ghz. Will be 2x the performance of clovertrail. Will have the desired all day battery life. Have a 22nm SoC instead of clovertrails 32nm SoC. The Stand by time will last up to weeks. This new line of Atom is designed to crush the ARM processor. While it is soley based on the touch interface and will run the metro ui with a breeze. The Intel company will also be releasing the Lexington atom platform for their phones. And a 4th generation Core family which will have the convertible design with up to 13hrs. when docked. Windows Blue will also be realesed some time around late 2013 or holiday time of 2013 with these new processors too.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Amd Is expected release their Tamesh chip in windows 8 tablets. As for their Z60 chip was only found in a handful of windows 8 tablets. (fujitsu and Vizio) They said they are focusing on transforming netbok performance into a windows 8 tablet. The chip will have a dual core or quad core option for choice. It will be able to run full windows 8. With a long battery life. It is targeted at high performance tablets that can run Hd games and productivity apps. It will draw less than 5w. It is said to be 100% faster than the current Z60. Tho the Arm processors have evolved. Intel and Amd evolve slowly with the power hungry devices . Amd has the same idea with the Intel ivy bridge situation. The temash chip is based on the jaguar cpu. It will too have 64 bit. They've already showed off a 10.6inch prototype. They do lack info tho. But they had the better graphics HD wise.

With technology, if you wait you'll never pull the trigger on a decision.

But, I'd wait seeing as there are legitimate new developments on the tablet PC processing front later this year. There is the quad core Atom that should be better, I think I've read that should be 64 bit capable so more RAM access, thus faster and stable performance. That, along with better manufacturing, that means better performance and power efficiency.

If AMD gets their poop in the group and get their APU tablet chips out to OEMs (Vizio will be using and AMD APU in their new tablet PC as the Atom currently can't handle 1080p resolutions), I'd personally choose that if at all possible. Why? Some of the BEST graphical performance on the tablet form factor. This means gaming, ACTUAL PC GAMING capabilities on a tablet. Intel's HD graphics can't match that AT ALL, in the slightest. Also, AMD's working on an x86 SoC chip as well, but that might be 2014.

From seeing the transitions of new Windows versions with new PCs, it generally seems to gravitate towards a year after that Windows release, the cream of the PC crop starts to form. A year and half later, they're even better. So yeah, I'd wait. :)

I hate that there is always something better on the horizon. I want a Windows 8 tablet but fear that I would quickly outgrow the current options and I be left wishing. It would be an easier choice if the new options were not so close - Intel Haswell(core)/BayTrail (atom) and AMD Tamesh. All should be a considerable bump from the existing tablet processers.

Intel Core Y (7w ivy bridge) and AMD Hondo (should rank between current Intel Core & Atom Clovertrail) are not just on the horizon - they are here. It is just a matter of manufacturers getting products and refreshes out there. Here are the list of known devices that should be releasing very soon:

  • Fujitsu Stylistic Q572 (Hondo)
  • Vizio Tablet PC (Hondo)
  • Acer W700 (Refresh Core Y)
  • Lenovo Yogo 11s (Refresh Core Y / Win8)
  • Lenovo Helix (Core Y)

I will say this, if the current gen atom tablets, or even a core (surface pro), were released alongside Windows 8 last October I would have had no problem ponying up for one right then and there. I was excited to get a taste of a true Windows 8 device, but when I went to the store, the choices were between some legacy laptop an OEM strapped Windows 8 to or a gimped RT tablet. Neither of which does a very good job of showcasing Windows 8. (Granted RT wouldn't be as bad if the app store wasn't so anemic.)

I think that MS's biggest misstep with Windows 8 was releasing the o/s before the hardware was there to show it off. These two should have been in lock step with each other. If Windows 8 is a transition - the first convergence between productivity and portability - then MS needed to lead with devices that straddle that gap and demonstrated its full, new potential. Instead, MS lead with a bunch of misaligned devices that were either a generation behind or a generation ahead.

The hardware should had been there for a while already, especially the OEMs that were building android tablets. There is a reason why OEMs were excited about Windows 8, it'll refresh the PC market into the tablet form factor. Windows 8 development has been known about for a couple of years, Microsoft probably told OEMs what they needed hardware wise. Why they haven't gotten them to market is a different question altogether. It seems they want to put touchscreens on already expensive devices and try to pass that off as two devices in one. The simpler route would be just to put a decent touchpad that is capable of performing the Windows 8 gestures. This hasn't been screwed up at all on the non-touch laptop PC. All Windows 8 certified PCs that don't have touch meet this requirement though.

I do agree for their is always something better coming up. Thats why they should have a upgradefeature with the intel chips like make it upgradable or trade in and pay money to get newest model.Like with the ipads.
