Hooked up my epson stylus c44ux.

Got a reassuring beep from windows 8 and saw it appear in devices and printers.

Device status says, This device is working properly.

Driver details says, no drivers have been loaded or are needed for this device.

But it aint working. :(

go to:
  1. Control Panel->Devices and Printers
  2. Click on Add a Printer
  3. Follow the instruction and eventually it will give a list of printers. If your printer is listed then select it.If not, click on Windows Updates then scroll thru the list and select your printer.

I assume you're connected directly with USB (as opposed to network)? I'm sure you went to Epson's support page for this printer, which states: Windows 8 drivers for this product are installed automatically when you power-on and connect your printer to your Windows 8 computer.

Have you tried to expunge the Epson driver from Windows 8 and start from the beginning?

Yes connected direct to the pc.

Been to the epson page and saw that.

When I try to uninstall the driver it says "no driver is loaded or needed "

Is expunge different from uninstall.?

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I have a newer Epson, which came out before Win8, and Epson put a warning on their support page for this model to REMOVE the default installed MS drivers as they did not support the full features of the Printer. Then, they said, install the current Win7 drivers.

I did that and the printer supports all the features it did in Win7.

How did you get the windows 7 driver. It tells me it is in win 7 and how to install it, but that doesn't help while I am in 8

I went to the Epson site for my printer and looked in the downloads page -- and they had downloadable Win7 drivers. Their site also had instructions on HOW to install the Win7 drivers in Win8.

unfortunately it doesn't work that way for mine, just tells me how to get it in 7, if I let it auto detect my system then it tells me it's not needed in 8.

Here's a page that might help someone, unfortunately, not me.

Epson and Windows 8

I take it you've visited this page:

Epson Stylus C44UX, Drivers & Downloads - Technical Support - Epson America, Inc.

Looks like the drivers for the printer were included in both Windows 7 and 8; no downloadable ones.

Have you tried the procedure Epson recommends if the drivers weren't installed?

If that doesn't work, all that I can think of is to get drivers from the Microsoft Update Catalog:

Microsoft Update Catalog

After you download them, extract them with an archiving utility (like 7Zip). Right click on the .inf file, and choose "install". I rarely do this sort of thing, so I'm not certain that it'll work, but it's only a 4MB download.
