When I upgraded to W8 the canon Printer Driver I used in Windows 7 was updated to a generic Windows 8 which only gave option to print in colour or B&W, losing all the additional options such as duplex printing and High Quality for photos. So basically worthless on a photo printer.
Canon support have given me the link for the latest driver mp68-win-mg8100-1_05-ea24.exe but when I load this it cannot detect the printer. I have tried connecting using a USB cable and wireless, though as the printer sits next to the PC the cable would be the preferred method.
I have gone back to Canon support, but am still waiting for a response when upon checking Windows update I found there was an Important Update published 17 January 2013
Canon - Printers - Canon MG8100 series Printer

So, I thought my troubles were over, but when I ran the update it failed. There were 9 updates altogether, which I found surprising as the computer had run updates recently. I have managed to install the rest of the updates by leaving out the Canon one and then tried running the Canon update on it's own, but it still fails with error code 8007078A.
I am not sure what to try next and guess it is probably the update failing to install that is the problem.
Has anyone else had this experience and managed to resolve it.
Any help would be welcome as the need for a printer is becoming critical. I cannot even use the basic printer driver loaded with W8 as that was deleted in the failed Canon driver install.
