New Ram killed my new Laptop help!!

HI All I wanted to add more ram on my Windows 8 basic 64 bit. My computer said it could take up to 6 gigs. I Already had 2 gigs and did some research on which ram to buy, and ordered 4 gigs more to add to my Hp Laptop. When I went to put the ram in my Laptop, it died! It is crazy why it would do that.. I tried taking the battery out and resetting it by pushing down the power button for 20 seconds, then put the power cord in and still did not turn on so that did not work.

I do not get why my Laptop is dead now. Any help would be appreciated..

    Troubleshooting steps:

Remove the new RAM. Will it boot then?

Remove the old RAM. Put the new RAM (only) in. Will it boot?

Assuming that the new RAM is of the correct type, you may still get into compatibility issues with the new RAM. The safest way is to replace all of the RAM in the laptop at once with the same type.

I don't think RAM could do that type of damage alone. Were you properly grounded when you added in the RAM? Any chance another part of the system was damaged by removing the covers, installing the RAM, etc?

Oh no I know how to put ram in I had done it with my other computers. I did not do anything at all to anything. My Laptop is new and it was giving me problems with the power source for the last two weeks. At first I thought it was the cord that had problems. However when the cord was plugged sitting on the desk it would say one minute it was charging and the next it said it was disconnected. I thought wow it is not the cord it is the computer. So I contacted HP and am sending in the Laptop. I tell you I must of got a lemon.

That's too bad. I hope that your return shipping is covered by HP. Or, better yet, that you could swap it at the retailer (if you bought it at retail).

I wanted to swap it but it only gave me 15 day return policy. Yes HP is taking care of the shipping charges. I have had more problems with their products. Argh.

    Thanks
