Alps Touchpad Problems

Hey there guys,
I installed Windows 8 on my Dell Inspiron 1440 (previously running Windows 7) and had to uninstall and reinstall my Alps Touchpad driver to make sure everything worked. In the past week or two though I've been battling the FBI Malaware virus and, though I've finally removed all the remnants of it, my Alps Touchpad just won't work. I've attempted to uninstall the driver through Device Manager, delete driver folders and reinstall, and use compatibility settings to install drivers. Nothing's working and the virus must have somehow corrupted the driver. Is there anyway to fix this situation? I can temporarily scroll using Apoint.exe from the Alps folder but that is a little clunky and temporary. Thanks guys and I hope to resolve a really annoying issue soon.
